Looking for a 64-68cm touring frame.

Requirements:

• Mid-blade eyelets on the fork
• Room for min 35mm tires and fenders (preferably more)
• Steel

A used Hillborne would be great. Heron/Kogswell/Gunnar/Surly is great too.

Offline messages good. Seattle great. If this doesn't work I'll probably end up with a new LHT.

Thanks,

Ryan

P.S. If you remember a similar post from me a few months ago I settled on a local Riv but wasn't able to get it as the company I worked for went under a week before purchasing it. That post was for a light/fast bike but a few bike camping trips and a new commute later I'm not interested in a light/fast bike.

Looks like all the 64cm LHTs (just like the 24" Ogres) are out anyway. Hope I can find something used! And they say tall bikes don't sell.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but the right size, and in
Seattle

That deco Trek-o is looking good. I'd say that's a nice find with a little more style than a comparably priced new frame like a Saga or a LHT.

Agree, but make sure you get a measurement on the tire clearance front
and rear. Maybe the GTBC had things dialed in by '83, but some early
examples have weirdly tight clearances, often at the seat stay bridge.

Yep, IME the '82 and '83 500, 620 and 720's will all max out at the
chainstays with a Pasela 700x35 (i.e. 700x32 max if you want fenders).

"often at the seat stay bridge."
"700x32 max if you want fenders"

That's where I'm at now. Nice find though Rob. BTW you still need to go on a ride with me. I wanna check out that new Riv.

Too bad the seller of the pumpkin on eBay did not take the opportunity
to crimp the chainstays / alter the brake bridge for better
clearances... would have been perfect.

I have an 84 Trek 620 and have had an 83.  The fork crown will only clear a 32 mm tire with fenders.   I tried a different fork but found the increased rake and blade length had a negative impact on an otherwise excellent road bike.

I have an Ebisu All Around- 63.5x60.5 - which is an excellent touring / commuting bike.  I run VO steel fenders and Avocet 38C  (35 actual) cross tires.  It does not have mid blade eyelets but I run the M12 rack on it.  I am pondering selling it but not yet sure i want to let go of it.

Anyway you can check it out at: http://www.jitensha.com/eng/aboutframes_e.html

Very nice. Got any pics of yours?

These were taken when it was brand new, a few years ago.  It has a few scratches and some different components - replaced the Al feders for more durable steel, a Davinci triple crank, the M12 up front, White pedals....  Bussy tomorrow but will take new pics if i wake up tomorrow feeling like I can let go of it.  Now it takes the biggest tires 35 (actual + fenders) of any of my bikes but I have been thinking about doing a 650 conversion on either my old Marinoni racing frame or the Trek.

This bike rides very nicely.  Bicycle Quarterly did a review, some years ago, that was pretty accurate. I have especially appreciated the low speed stability, which feels very reassuring when going up hill as a city bus goes bye, or very slooooly inching up on a traffic light.
