Here are some pics of a harlequin (diamond) wrap I did on the 42cm Noodles I'm currently finding are perfect for me.  I put 3 coats of amber on maroon and yellow Newbaums tape.  This week will be testing it weather-wise, as it looks like lots of rain.

I tried to do some video taping of this process, so after I learn how to edit and get it online, I'll hopefully be able to post a how-to.

Looks great, Brian! I've been thinking about putting a harlequin wrap on the bars on my atlantis. . . keep us posted on the video :)

Cheers!

I'm thinking it might be super cool in a very understated way to do a harlequin wrap all in one color.  That way, the only thing unusual is the diamond pattern texture.  It would be one of those kind of secret fancy touches that only a few very observant people would notice.

I concur.  My Ram's wrap was straight-forward, shellacked cork tape, twined.  For my Bomba, I was contemplating a harlequin-cloth-tap wrap, so I decided to rewrap my son's bike's bars first (he'd torn up his original black tape, had been electrical-taped back together as a field-repair).

It was 'okay', but, wow, tricky, and not quite happy w/ the result.  Well, he was, he was delighted w/ it, but wasn't up to what I really wanted;  ended up going w/ a single color cloth and shellac on the Bomba because of...

Your job, tho'...   makes me want to try again.   Also given me an idea on simplifying what I attempted;  just harlequin the upper and lower, instead of trying to keep it going around under the hoods....

Brian - elegant and fun, at the same time! Beautiful job.

Actually, Bike Doctor in Waldorf does that with one-color cork-like
wraps. It does look cool and understated.

I ended up with this when I did an orange and red wrap under amber shellac on some moustache bars. . It was almost unnoticeably subtle...

I gave up on the curves after more than a few warped diamonds on prior wraps. Less is more with this pattern IMO...

Offspring seem more forgiving of our taping “failures” than we are.  My son was delighted with this wrap on a Quickbeam I built for him; I thought it looked terrible, but he gets positive comments all the time (or so he says; perhaps he’s just stroking the old man).  http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/5645451069/in/set-72157626433454817
