I was hoping to get some help from the gurus on this site regarding frame prep.

My new San Marcos is currently in transit and I'd like to know if it'd be a good idea to spray it with Framesaver before or after installing the headset. I'm fairly certain that I'll have a local bike shop install the headset and chase the BB threads. Should I ask the guys at the bike shop to take care of anything else?

I am fairly competent mechanically and have built and reconfigured my Sam Hillborne a hundred times. But when getting that frame a couple of years ago, it already had the headset and BB installed. I will be setting up all the drivetrain parts and accessories on the new bike, but want to make sure the frame is prepped correctly before I start installing components.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,
Tony

I always apply FS before headset install (unless the frame came w/ headset, then tried to spray around it). If it's not installed, take advantage of that and hose the frame down! Then wait a day or two for the excess to dry/leak out before you continue. If they're chasing the BB threads, might as well have them install it at the same time.

Have them face the headtube surfaces while they're at it. Probably not a problem, but if you wanna' do it right, one thing to look at.

Have fun with the rest!!!

Just talked to the mechanic at the bike shop and they can face the headtube surfaces and chase threads and install the BB. I'll be sure to apply the FS before I take it in to the shop. Thanks for the advice!
