Subject: Marathon Supremes

Last Saturday was work on the bikes day out in the garage.  Changed up the bars on the SO from mustache to albatross, and changed the noodles to mustache bars on the Roadeo.  Also got some marathon supreme 40's from Riv to put on the SO.  As I was starting to put on the rear of the SO I'm looking over at the Roadeo....clearance for fatties?  Riv says 35 is max for Roadeo, the supremes measure closer to 37.5, I gotta try.  Take off the rear wheel and put on the new tire, fit it back in and I cant believe it fits.  No room for fender but it clears chain stays and brake.  Put the front one on and I am laughing in delight, the Roadeo is transformed into a beast!  Took it out for a quick mixted bike path, road, and dirt trail ride, and tickled with delight on how versatile these bikes that Grant designs are.

I will go back to JB's on the Roadeo so I can fender it up for winter, and put the supremes on the SO.  They are a nice tire.  Really shocked they fit on the Rodeo.

Pictures!  Gotta see that Roadeo.  That would be like Brahma Bull version.

I am such an idiot sometimes, haven't logged into flickr for so long that I have forgotten passwords and the like.  LOL at self.  I will figure it out and post the few pix of the monster Rodeo.

The 700 x 40 Marathon Supremes I have measure 40 mm on a Mavic A719
rim (fairly wide touring rim). So the 37.5 mm is probably on a
narrower, more high performance rim. The rim is the other variable to
consider when pushing the envelope on tire fit.

The 40s look nicely chubby on my Atlantis; they must give the Roadeo a
wild look.

They were mounted on a Mavic Open Pro on the Rodeo, they are now on the MA3's on the SO, awesome tire.

I do like those tires on my Sam Hillborne. However, on that bike,
thye don't look huge. Or maybe I'm just more used to slightly larger
tires. The skinniest I'll ride is 37 and those look positively
svelte.

Like others, would like to see photos of the Rodeo set up that way.
With a suitably light rider, the ride has to be extra plush.

When people ask "what size tire should I use for a tour?", my advice
is "stick on the biggest one your bike will take". You have found the
limit for the Roadeo! And what a look.
