Vittoria 1976 Men's Cycling Shoe

Any opinions on these shoes? I have no desire to give up clipless
pedals, but I am also finding cycling shoes more and more obnoxious.
They are either a $350 carbon disaster or a massive "touring" shoe
that seems more suited for hiking.

I love the look of these Vittoria shoes and the SPD compatibility.
The price seems excessive.

Those look very nice and if I were in the market for another SPD pair
for road use I'd consider them. As it is, I have put a few hundred
miles on the half-that-price Exustar touring shoe (I got mine from VO
that no longer carries them, but here you go:

and those are nice shoes: perhaps (to judge as far as one can just
from the Vittoria's photos) a bit more rugged but still leather, SPD
compatible and modest in their aesthetics. I wish I'd bought 45s
instead of 44s, but the leather has stretched a bit and doubtless will
continue to as long as the top of my left big toe continues mildly to
complain.

And of course there are Dromarti and Quoc Pham.

I agree with the observation, "carbon disasters." I was interested to
note that the Exustar Touring Shoe above does not weigh all that much
more than some of Exustar's SR 243 cycling shoe at $230, carbon fiber
soles and 578 grams versus the tourer's 655 grams and $100 cost. (But
doubtless the 243 is more laterally stiff and vertically compliant
and, truth be told, it doesn't look all *that* bad.)

Bruce and Patrick, thanks for the recs and links. Patrick, with your
comment about 44s v 45s would your say the Exustars run small? I wear
a 45 all day with Shimano shoes to the point that I don't try them
on.

I would say they run normal. I've found that as I age my feet have
slightly grown and I now am on the cusp between 44 and 45 for most
shoes, while I used to be a size smaller. If you are happy with
Shimano 45s, I'd be inclined to think that 45 Exustars would work,
too. My 44s feel much the same as my 44 Shimanos.

boy at that price the Dromarti's would be my choice. You can even get the Sportivo with recessed spd cleat so you actually walk around. Those brown ones are pretty slick.

Thanks. I ended up ordering the Exustar SRT 707 on the interwebz.

I would consider the Vittorias beacause I like the traditional look -
- similar to my old Detto Pietros. If anyone knows a source for large
sizes (48 and up), kindly post a link.

Out of the box eval....great fit w/ medium weight socks and room for
thicker ones. Toe box is roomy. Some reviews said the shoe was
narrow, but I don't notice anything unique. I wear a 45 in Shimano
shoes and ordered a 45 in these. Initially I think these will be
exellent shoes. In all the web pics the shoes look like ballet
slippers, but they are much better looking in person.

FWIW my wife thinks they are silly and HATES the heel!

Those Vittorias really bring back memories of metal cleats nails and above all comfort. I started riding those in the late '60s and until the final pair gave up the ghost have yet to experience a more comfortable shoe.

Also, I just stumbled onto another blast from the past on Ebay. Puma was one of the more popular shoe brands in the '70s and '80s this is the first time I've sen something like this:

Now there are a pair of stiff soles, not sure about the wear but wold be interesting to test them out.

OK, I confess, I'm old enough to have owned these shoes!  But, if memory (not to be trusted) serves me right, my first pair of vittorias wasn't until the early 80's.  I'm a size 47-49, so these are a non starter.

I have been walking around, indoors, this winter in a pair of NB minimalist sneakers and have fallen in love with them.  They are just as comfortable as my Helfinger clogs and I am waiting for spring to try them out in conjunction with my Paul's pedals.  I have very high hopes for a great new combo.
