I spoke today with someone from Grant's book publisher about the upcoming book tour. We've scheduled the evening of May 31 to have Grant at HC for a book-signing session. This kicks off the Midwest RBW Rally, which begins formally on June 1. More info here:

Are you kidding me? Talk about the stars aligning. You lucky midwesterners.

I like this a lot and look forward to being there.   We all know Grant has another connection to St Paul as well.  Maybe that factors in to having him come here in late May.  In any case, nifty, I say.

Not really stars aligning. First they selected an earlier date. I called back and asked if it could be on May 31 to make it work with the rally. The woman I talked to said no problem. I suppose GP might have something to say about it, and plans frequently change for external reasons, but that's the plan for now.

Jim is being modest (as usual.)   There was a secondary reason he asked the date to be changed.  Am thanking you publically for doing that.

Is the itinerary final yet? Is he coming to ABQ, NM? Why not???

Regarding books: how is Rework if anyone has read it? Perhaps I should
just order since they promise 3X my money back if I don't like it.

Must order Epidemic, Just Ride and BS. Perhaps Unfolding, too. Bought
WWGF on Kindle already (but it doesn't convince wholly me tho' it has
some convincing material).

Jim: is that axle assembly for Surly hubs available yet?

Love old Neal Stephenson (from your quote). I still haven't read Zodiac...

Re: books. Zodiac is great. REAMDE, Stephenson's new one, is very
entertaining, too. Huge and good. Either more mainstream or more
polished than most of his books, depending on your perspective.

Reamde almost sounds like a Charles Stross book Iv'e read or a  Cory Doctorow book I haven't read yet. Sounds good!

Notes about book tour: The pub, not me, sets up the schedule, and I
just go along. It's not clear to who pays---my contract doesn't
address that, and I've been assuming the pub pays, but on the Ultimate
Source for Info on Everthing (internet/google), it kind of says yeah,
maybe you, maybe them, just depends. So...if it IS me, then it will be
an even shorter tour---but I will certainly make it to any Rivrelated
venues. If it's them, I'll go to Austin & other places. No, not
talking at Mellow Johnny's. I'd get kicked out of there real fast.

Anyway, I'll find out Monday who pays. It's a good publisher, the
opposite of Rinky Dink, and I've been treated well from the start. I
have that kind of faith...but I long for verification.

Spoke to Free Range Cycles in Freemont (@Seattle Bike Expo this
weekend) and hear that Grant has a possible date in Seattle of 5/11/12
to do the Book Tour Thing. I'm sure I'm not the only lister that
would like to come and hear a talk and/or support in other ways.

GP: please let us know once the schedule is decided. We will help
spread the word.

Agreed. It had more of the sprawling adventure of Zodiac, but with the
ensuing years, his writing has become that much more enjoyable.
