If you Google them, you'll turn up several favorable reviews, of the pedals and also of the company's customer service.  I orderd a pair.

Not sure if they are the same VP pedal, but, if so - Jim Thill had a set on one of his bikes last year.  Test rode and really liked the pedals.  They are grippy and the thin profile is really nice on a lower bottom bracket bike.

That said - not sure I'll order a pair.  Have one set of pedals with spikes and both my legs seem to like to bleed from the spikes.  Appears past health issues can have lingering effects.

Probably going to replace those with MKS sneakers.

Do these new pedals need the extra steel washer, to avoid gouging the cranks?

I've been running box pedals so these fit into my favorite zone. Probably be sold out before I get to them.

These look thin enough to affect your Gain Ratio! I'll have to measure my Grip Kings to know for sure... but switching to these from GKs may turn your 170mm cranks into 172.5mm cranks. It might even inspire you to lower your saddle a smidge.

Of course both pedal and shoe thickness variations may induce us fussy
folks to tweek saddle height, but the radius of the circle your foot
goes in stays the same. With longer cranks the circle is bigger so
knees come up higher (for same max extension) and feet go further
front to back. Not really the same things.

That's right of course; it's an offset, not a stretch.

Still... them pedals is thin!

I noticed those too, they look good. I'll most likely get a pair a little later this year. Either that or add spikes to my Grip Kings which are anything but grippy in the rain which will soon return to Portland... : (

Thomas...the whole point of their thin-ness is------oh man, how do I put this?-----they're a grand opportunity to break out those elevator shoes. ESP= elevator shoe pedals. Quicker to type than Thin Gripsters, anyway.

These pedals are great.  While not having tried the particular set that Riv is selling the VP pedals are made by HT OEM, and are all pretty decent.  If you find a bad review it is usually from a downhill or dirt jump guy who landed on them sideways.  I have a downhill racer buddy who has been spinning AE03 pedals on the Trek 650b conversion I did for him about a year ago:
http://oceanaircycles.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/5.5-sulphur-8724.jpg
he rides in sandals (sanuk shoe sandals) and can and will smoke most roadies at will with the bike.  While rider skill and power play a role, the foot connection to the bike is no real handicap.  These pedals take the Riv riding free ethic to a new level.  The market is changing, and an expanding pool of riders are open to alternative ideas.  These high quality flat pedals are thin and light, provide the support that is traditionally expected of the shoe, yet let you have the freedom to wear what you want.  Imagine a world where a tri racer running in minimalist shoes will chose these for the bike leg to cut transition times to zero, and can use the same pedals on tuesday to roll over to the park with the kids.

And on a side note about price, Riv is beyond competitive, not sure how they do it, but at this point do not bother trying to out shop this deal if you were thinking about getting a pair

As the t-shirt says, vindication will come

These do look awesome!! I was looking at them via QBP catalog considering them or the Tioga Spyder to replace my grip kings.

And Rob...you hit the nail on the head regarding the price.

+1 on price -- I was looking for a pair of green ones (as in the Riv pic) on the web, and the prices are uniformly higher than Riv's $60.  Jump on these.

BTW, Riv used to sell the Tioga Spyders (at like $125); I bought a pair and like them a lot, but if you like those you'll LOVE the Tioga D-Spyders (which are a wider version of the Spyders).  Here: http://www.amazon.com/Tioga-PDL07100-D-Spyder-Pedals-Black/dp/B0029LMUN8/ref=sr_1_22?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1346171679&sr=1-22

Looks like I was too late as well.  Here today, gone today?  Fairly good deal at Universal Cycles for $65.00 plus $2.99 shipping.

I saw a few earlier emails looking for Grip Kings, I will probably let mine go, so send me an email offline if you're looking for a pair.  They have only been on two rides.

Thanks and regards,

FYI, if some of you end up going the universal route, they have 10-15% off coupons on the web for orders that hit high enough $$ amounts.  I am not affiliates, but have always had great service from them in the past - Rob

I just got a pair via UPS, they look great. So thin! only about 13mm thick. Weight is 6.2 oz per pedal, or 174 grams. The widest part extends about 110 mm from face of the crank where they screw in, and have about 83 mm of "flat" across the top of the platform, measured front to back. Nice matte finish, though I think I'll take a file and chamfer the edges slightly. Looking forward to riding with them.

Thanks to RBW for stocking them, and for the ultra-fast shipping.

After a quick ride on the fixed-gear QuickBeam, I have to say I like these pedals very much. I could not strike them, even tooling around the roundabouts in my neighborhood. What's weird - maybe obvious with platform pedals - is the freedom to put my feet anywhere at all. I think I'm going to make up some flat webbing straps, which should fit nicely through the slots, and see how that goes. Then I could ride goofy on one side of the pedals (with freewheel) or strapped in (with fixed cog). Here's one example of homemade straps:

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/08/make-it-velcro-speed-straps-for-fixed-gear-riders/

Also, the pedals are thinner, which means my seat is a tad too high, so I'm going to nudge it down a bit until I get back to the same leg extension I was used to.
