man, every time I look at the Hunqapillar with the gray/kidney color scheme it speaks to me. I just love the look and attitude of that bike more and more every time I see it. When I was deciding what to get I kept going back and forth between the Sam and the Homer, but all along I was overlooking the bike that I now really wish I owned. This is nothing against my Homer. It is a great bike, better than great, but I feel like the Hunqapllar is me.

Anyway, this is not an overly serious trade request, but if someone out there had a 54 Hunq and was wanting to try a 59 Homer, well, I would be open to discussing the possibilities.

Thanks for reading guys, but my intention was not to solicit sale offers. The Hilsen is not for sale, just daydreaming out loud. But I would entertain discussion of *exactly*  what I am speaking of. Thanks

Be careful what you wish for...

I've had similar Hunqa-lust. Went so far as to call Riv and talk to Keven about the different capabilities between dream Hunqa and my Homer. Keven suggested that unless I was planning to ride lots of cobblestone single-track or haul big loads that the Homer was quite capable. His advice was to not baby my Homer and have fun. It was/is good advice. Sure, I wouldn't mind having a Hunqa to hang next to Homer and pull out for the occasional off-road adventure but I think if all I had was a Hunqa, I'd be Homer-sick quite often.

FWIW... Following a couple recent dirt road adventures (even a few cobblestones) Homer with 40mm tires is beast enough/perfect for the vast majority of where I want to ride.

Not sure how your Homer is set up but perhaps a few component changes would renew it.

Whatever direction you go, Happy Pedaling.

I can't help you with the trade, sorry.

I don't know if I would trade a Homer for a Hunqapillar, but I would buy a Hunqapillar to compliment a roadish Homer. Nothing wrong with two bikes except cost of course.

I guess in the grand scheme of things, I could really get by with just an Atlantis to do road riding, touring and some trail riding, maybe a Hunqapillar even.  The only issue would be that my size would necessitate 26" wheels and I would want something a little larger for road riding for sport. But I am going off on a tangent now, sorry.

I think the bottom line is that if you really will use the Hunqapillar more than the Homer, and use wider tires offroad ect., it probably would be a better bet for you. Not that the Homer is a slouch, but it is certainly more road oriented than the Hunq.

good luck on what you decide.

Great thread! I too, have a Homer and have been drooling over Hunqa's
for a while now. 90% of my riding is on the road, in fact last summer
was my first serious dalliance with single track. I bought a 90s
Rockhopper, rigid fork, and I really like that type of riding.
So...I've decided that the Hunq will be my next bike. I can't part
with my Homer. I do love the Rodeo too. My goal is to have one of
each, with Homer set up to tour/commute, Rodeo for the fast club rides
(although my fast today is much less so than it used to be) and the
Hunqa for everything else. I would definitely seek the Riv folks'
advice about your choice of ride. I was originally going to buy a
Rodeo, but after discussions with Grant and Keven, I opted for the
Homer. (This was a little over a year ago, and my first foray into the
Riv world. I drooled over crabon fiber up until then.) I am really
glad I took their advice, and that is what I'll do when I add my
second Riv to the stable. Anyway, you're right about the look and
attitude of the Hunqa. It looks like a great ride, and the great thing
about a Riv is that I don't think you can really go wrong.

I have a 56 Atlantis that I might consider swapping for a 59 Hilsen.

Have the Homer repainted grey/kidney?

Scotty - just order one to complement your Homer.  That's what I just did. I know what you mean - I love that Hunqa color and ride. It will be my rough road and camp bike.
