Playing around with my new Lytro camera, and took this photo of Patrick's former Motobecane:

Enjoy. More photos to come.

Eric,

Wow, really cool!
You must be having fun with this camera.
It would be neat to see photos of interesting bike shops and framebuilder workshops with this camera system -- click to focus and zoom in. Like all of the nifty stuff in JP Weigle's workshop: http://www.flickr.com/photos/49353569@N00/6836344977/in/photostream
Take some photos at RBW HQ!
I imagine this technology is going to get better and better, with more depth(s) of focus and ability to zoom in -- in the near future I bet you will be able to go somewhere, snap a few panoramic shots, and when you get home, click and zoom/focus to explore all the details, kind of like human-scale Google Earth.
Have a camera mounted on your helmet, and set it to snap a photo every 10 minutes or on voice command, and when you get home relive portions of the bike ride and share photos with friends.

It just occurred to me what this was reminding me of!!!

Remember when Deckard was looking through Leon's photographs, and was having the computer pan around and refocus on different parts of the picture??

I'm just flummoxed that I'd missed this camera's existence!

I've gone back and forth on the value of the Lytro, so I'm interested
to see more pics. I really want it to be more than a novelty, but I
haven't seen that yet. I think we're going to see software upgrades
for existing cameras that give 90% of the refocusability at 10x the
resolution.

I think you've got it right. The lytro is more or less an
infinite-focus polaroid given the size and depth of picture you end up
with.

It may not have the resolution of a standard camera, but it's worth the $$ to me just to have the technology. This is unlike any camera that has even been available to the public since ... well, since the advent of photography. I find that irresistible (and, by the way, I'll be at the local Apple Store next Friday to pick up the "new" iPad (3)

Lyto seems cool,  ipad3 not so much.  Don't get me wrong my 5 year old loves her ipad2 but it is little more than a toy and seems like just a thing to have because it is out there.  A small laptop still gives me much more utility for the same cost and I can upgrade it without facing the apple regime.  Might pick up the Lyto camera for my wife,  she loves photography. Cool pics.
