I have the SKS silver plastic ones on my Bleriot with Hetres,  they fit perfect.   I used to have aluminum ones,   but i prefer the plastic because they can bumped a little more and still hold their shape better.   As for the size,   they are the P50's.   hope this helps  -Mike

After some reading on fenders, I'm ready to go for it. I've heard a lot of horror stories about installing metal fenders, though. I have a set on my Schwinn and they're solid, but the install took forever. The metal fenders on my Kogswell used to shift around (a bad install; blame the mechanic: me!).

Anyway for my new bike, I'm looking for some fenders that'll fit the large and lovely Grand Bois Hetre 650B x 42mm. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've been using the SKS Longboard fender with Hetres. The work great for me.

The Silver brakes from Riv   which are just Tektro 559s labeled 'Silver' I believe.   -Mike

Toshi - In terms of controlling water spray, do you get adequate
coverage over the Hetre with the P45 Longboards?

I haven't ridden my Ram in hard rain yet. I've ridden through puddles
and such and have not noticed grime on my BB. I usually won't ride the
Ram in hard rain unless I get caught out or do a brevet in the rain. I
haven't done that yet, but if I do, then I can give a better report. I
also have extra plastic, reflective mudflaps that I will mount if I
find that the current mudflap does not go low enough.

I can measure the distance from the bottom of the flap to the ground
if that would be helpful...

One thing to consider about tight fender clearance... this has happened a couple times on my wife's Betty w/ Hetres and SKS P-50s... is the space between the tire and fender filling up with debris (wet pine needles) to the point that the wheel freezes. It requires removing the wheel to clean it all out.

Regarding fender clearance, I was told to try to keep a pencil's width
of clearance. I don't think I could get that with Hetres on my AHH,
but on the 650b Ram, I believe I was able to attain, if not come close
to that. In fact, I think I bent the metal clip straight so I could
lower the fender up front (it was originally bent forward as shown in
the Riv video to mount on another bike).

How did they work, Jim? The "29er" or the 26"?

I used the Cascadia 29er because I already had a set for a knobby 29er. As you probably know, they are very wide fenders and there is a lot of room underneath for the Hetres, probably 10mm of overlap per side. Mine were on a Bombadil; I don't think they would fit most Rivs (or non-MTB's) without some trimming to get them through the stays. Also, the lower rear mount cracked, so I'm not using them any more.

I have SKS P45 Longboards with Hetres on my Bleriot with Paul centerpull brakes with plenty of clearance.

Michael, do you have any pictures? I can't imagine that there would be much clearance since the Hetre's around about 40mm-42mm and the P45 should be about 45mm. The arithmatic makes it sound very tight, but maybe the real world measurements are a different story.
Thanks!

Hi Daniel,

I use SKS P50 mudguards with my Hetres, and they fit well.  SKS recommends the P50 for tires of width 38--45mm:

@Daniel:

If I remember, my Hetres are measuring at 38mm wide. They are inflated within the inflation range printed on the sidewall (the lower end of it if I remember). They fit under the fenders better than my Rumpkins did. They look narrower. According to the Rivsite, P45's will take a 45mm wide tire. I'll try to remember to get some pics posted this week if you still want to see.

Here is my newly converted 650b Rambouillet with new Hetre Legers and SKS Longboards.  The tires and fenders fit just perfectly fine with few millimeters to spare.  FWIW - The new Legers are exact 41mm wide.

Hey Alex,

That's awesome! I may get the Leger tires whenever my regular Hetres
wear out. Did you have any brake reach issues in the rear?

Hi Toshi,
No brake issues in either the front or rear.  I believe couple of mm to spare in the rear.
