Some of you know me, I've been a Riv fan for a long time and have participated here for a few years but up until now I've never had a Rivendell to call my own.

However, I decided to take the plunge and on saturday I went into Riv to get a new frame for a fixed-gear daily driver.  I was thinking a 62cm SimpleOne would do the trick even though it's a bit on the short side for my ~96cm PBH, esp. if I used upright bars as I was planning to do.  However, Vince was really hesitant about the compromises of such a setup, and mentioned something about a bigger frame they had up in the attic...he goes and comes back with a NOS 64cm Quickbeam f/f, from the 2nd (Orange) production run!  This just seals the deal for me, since I've always loved Quickbeams, and the orange was definitely my favorite color.  Seemed pretty once-in-a-lifetime, so I went for it.

I'm paying for the frame on a 4-month layaway, so I should take delivery in April, and I'll be building it up myself.  Can't wait.

Also had a great time visiting, saw Erik of Cosmic Country fame and Manny who was mourning the loss of his Bleriot, but had still ridden by on his old road bike.  Got to ride what I think was a 62cm Bombadil with the Bullmoose bars and fenders over Schwalbe Nobby Nic tires, which was a totally bomber setup.  The bars esp. were awesome, think I may have to go that route on the QB when I build it up.

Pictures when i get it!

LOL, sometimes i just have to wonder about the guys over at RBW,
especially with folks lamenting the lack of larger sizes of the SO and
here you go and find a Quickbeam that's prolly 5? years old just
sitting in the rafters! Good fortune for you, but what else is up in
the attics?

That's great Jeremy, I can identify (kind of).  Goes to show what an in-person visit will do.  You'll have fun planning for 4 months, then even more fun riding!  Cheers, Steve

+1 on the Bullmoose bars. They're fast becoming my favorite bars!

Congratulations on your find. I was there on Saturday as well picking up a new Dyad 36 SON28 front wheel Rich built for me; must have missed you all.

Was that the frame that was hanging with the foam wrapping the BB shell?

Great find, Jeremy! The QB is definitely one of my favorite bikes.
Maybe we can have an Entmoot in the spring when you get it.

Congrats, Jeremy, on your new Quickbeam frame!  My wife owns one along with her Betty Foy, and she loves both!  I love how Vince thought about your available options, and then took the effort of going through their inventory in the attic to get the QB for you.  The Riv guys are the best, and Vince and Keven(the two that have helped my wife and me) are two of the nicest and most patient guys that you'll ever meet...anywhere.

I have the 150mm Bullmoose bar on my Hunqapillar and love it.  Just a beautiful and cool looking bar, with good ergonomics.  But I have to admit...that new bar Grant has on his currently named "Bosco Rubbe" bike intrigues me.

Wonder if they need any help cleaning out that attic? If that big,
orange QB was "forgotten", imagine what interesting smaller bits could
be lurking up there.

Jeremy,
Good on ya!

I choose to  believe the bike came from the 'Santa Claus' attic, this being the season and all.

Congratulations! That is just the best. The Quickbeam orange is a
great color. You've always been in the club, but the bikes sure are
nice.
I think the "magic attic" must have things up there waiting for just
the right person. I really like the 'layaway' plan, too. I bought my
first bike on layaway - it's exciting, it's old-school (no thanks,
credit card company), and you'll get it in the spring when the riding
is fantastic.

Vince is the master of the Attic, eh? I got to lay my hands on that frame, and was quite tempted by it, until I found a used 66cm Orange Quickbeam, which is a perfect fit for me. You'll be fine on the 64, don't worry at all.

And yes, Orange is definitely the fastest colour.
