Moonshine's PostgreSQL currently asks for either 8.4 or 8.3, depending on the OS. 8.4 was released in September, 2009, and 8.3 support is sunsetting next year. http://www.postgresql.org/support/versioning/
MySQL 5.1 was GA in 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySQL#Product_history

Any particular reason why Moonshine wouldn't default to a more recent release? Both MySQL and PostgreSQL have significant improvements that are not included in Moonshine's default config; I know I can change it myself, but I'm wondering why it's like this.

Thanks,

Hi Matt,

Those are the versions that are available through Ubuntu Lucid, which is why they are the default.

I have done some work in the past to use the PPA for newer PostgreSQL releases (9.0, 9.1), but that hasn't been integrated into moonshine proper yet. You can see the branch here: https://github.com/railsmachine/moonshine/commits/comprehensive-pg-support

I'll queue up something to review and test that branch to see if it's ready for prime time.
