NOTE: This is a payed job but only for someone who is a good fit and could potentially come onboard as a business partner and cofounder with significant equity (20-35%).
If you are a developer interested in the travel space and are open to taking on some work with the potential of helping found a great company then read on.

Hi guys, my name is Kevin. This is my first post here and I am looking for a cofounder but I am not your typical bozo business person and here’s why;
  • Let’s be realistic: You are constantly approached by recruiters, business guys and people looking to get work done. You’re busy so I understand it’s not realistic for me to expect you to drop everything you are doing and come on board as a cofounder with no pay and no guarantee that it will all work.

  • You will be paid: If you are the right person I will pay you to build the site. That way, if for some reason things don’t work out you have not wasted your time. If you are, we can form an amazing company together.

  • I’m no bozo: I’ve worked at Deloitte, IBM and Staples USA as well as run four different small businesses. I have proven that I can hold up the business/marketing/sales/usability side of things and whatever else needs to be done. I know the market, have been working on this for 7 months, have won multiple pitches and am 100% committed to building a great company. Learn more about me here http://au.linkedin.com/in/kevinbktruong

  • You are valued: I understand the value of a technical business partner and know that the business would go nowhere without the ability to execute. I have started to learn front end coding and Photoshop and would love to learn more back end coding.

The Idea: Locongo - A travel network that connects travellers with local people who offer free or paid locals experiences. Like Couchsurfing but for experiences. We solve the problem of meeting locals and getting the local experience when travelling. Locals create a travel profile and can be requested by travellers. Travellers get to go beyond the tourist brochures and guides and truly experience the local culture. It could be anything from going on a small bar crawl with a local, to meeting up with a fellow ROR developer or attending a sporting game. Locongo will be the platform that empowers people all over the world to share experiences with one another. See a mockup of the revised front page attached.

The Situation: Current site is built in CakePHP with LESS/CSS as the front end but major functionality is missing and the site interface needs to be updated. Mockups of every page and how they should function are ready to go. Looking to have the site rebuilt in ROR as a lot needs to be changed.

If for some reason this was interesting to you and you would like to find out a bit more email me at ke...@locongo.com or kevint...@hotmail.com. Cheers!

Hi Kevin,

I'm not available for work, but for what its worth the actual business does sound like a winner. I immediately understood what the value was to the customer. 99% of the business plans I hear I don't think much of, but in a one paragraph description you have sold me on the concept.

Best of luck.

Cheers,

Anthony Richardson

Hey Anthony,

Thats alright, thanks so much for the feedback! Are you working on a startup as well?

Kevin,

I will be looking for Rails work in the near future (this Java contract ends at the end of April), but unfortunately I'm not the dev you're looking for.
Even with over 15 years of IT experience, I'm still way too junior at Rails, JavaScript and UX.

However, like Anthony I think you're onto an awesome idea.
Unlike most startups I hear about, it's something I'd actually use and even contribute to myself.

Cheers,

Hi Kevin,

Nice to see that you've decided to ditch PHP and go with Ruby - I didn't realise it was built with CakePHP - you've definitely made the right choice. :P (I figured this is the roro group, so no die hard CakePHP fans that could hit me with a brick...)
