Hi,

Does anyone knows/uses the dragonfly gem?
I rely on it a fair bit, but start getting a little concerned since the last commit was 9 months ago or so.

So I wanted to dig into this gem a little and run the tests. But was double surprised by this:

> bundle
Fetching gem metadata from http://rubygems.org/.......
Fetching gem metadata from http://rubygems.org/..
Bundler could not find compatible versions for gem "bundler":
  In Gemfile:
jeweler (~> 1.5.2) ruby depends on
      bundler (~> 1.0.0) ruby

  Current Bundler version:
    bundler (1.1.3)

This Gemfile requires a different version of Bundler.
Perhaps you need to update Bundler by running `gem install bundler`?

So what do you think about the dragonfly?

Cheers,

Hi Dmytrii,

I used dragonfly about 18 months ago and was very happy with it.

To get past the error you're seeing you just need to update jeweler. I
removed its version requirement from the Gemfile and bundle install
(with the newest bundler) worked fine (giving me jeweler 1.8.4).

I tried `rake spec` and ran into a couple more issues. Updating
imagemagick on my system fixed most of it, but then there were still
13 failing specs: 10 to do with mongodb (of which I have an old
version installed), 1 to do with s3 (maybe amazon or the fog gem
changed a URL naming scheme), and 1 more to do with imagemagick.

Probably these could be fixed without too much trouble.

I notice there are 18 pull requests for it on github. Maybe the
creator is in need of a co-maintainer to help out.

I'm not sure this would keep me from using what always seemed like a
really good gem.

Cheers,
Chris

I'm really happy with Dragonfly.  Just because something hasn't seen commits in a while doesn't make it dead.. it just perhaps means that it's suiting all of the purposes that the author had for it. :)

I'll echo Chris..  I think that Mark just needs some help with maintaining the project.

Personally I'm going to continue using it and would gladly help with the maintenance of it.

I worked with Mark in London and he's an awesome guy. Just ping him if you have any concerns (or any of the dudes at New Bamboo - they also all pretty much rock).

I've only used Dragonfly on one project and it does what it needs to, so just echoing Phil.

ciao !
Daryl.

Thanks guys.

Okay, I think I'm being concerned without real reasons. Just depending on it quite a lot.

I guess sometimes software just can be finished :)

I'll see if I'll have any time to help with the project. But not sure yet.
