Hello it's that time of the month!

Melbourne's finest ruby meetup will be on the 30th of June at
ThoughtWorks - 6pm for a 6:30 start.

Thoughtworks IOOF Building,
Level 15, corner of Elizabeth and Collins Street

Jack Chen (@chendo) has been generously volunteered by Gareth Townsend
to speak and Mike Williams is giving a talk about lazy enumerables.

If you haven't spoken before you should definitely volunteer to speak
(how hard could it be?!) - we have two more slots available - let me
know!

Cheers,
Mike

If anyone's got a project from Rails Camp to show off, this is the perfect opportunity :)

Hi,

My colleague Pete will bring a video camera, in case any of the
speakers don't mind being recorded and podcast. I gather there are
people would be interested in watching them?

Cheers,
Dave Burt

Hey guys,

I've presented last time, but would be happy to give a very quick (10 mins) talk about James (http://github.com/floere/james), a dialogue system to get your Mac talking.
Though I am happy to step aside to have a newcomer take the stage, of course!

Cheers,
   Florian

Dave

If you and Pete could record the talks, that'd be great - although I'll warn you now, the hard part is turning the recordings into video/podcasts :)

I had negotiate for a speaking slot (to fill my analog blog commitment
from last time)
with Michael Morris, and have prepared a talk on "Comet with Sinatra",
which is
based on my bayeux-rack gem and jquery.comet client-side code. If you
don't know
what Comet it, it's basically asynchronous messaging from server to
browser, using
AJAX requests.

Comet is regarded as being a little old-hat now, but socket-io doesn't
have support
in any Rack-based server, so folk have been forced to jump to Node.js
or run a
second server to get asynchronous messaging. There are other
alternatives which
implement long-polling, but not as simple and sweet as what I'll show.
Or so I think
anyhow!
