I can't tell exactly what is wrong, but it appears that you have something in your configuration (possibly in your puppet.conf) that is trying to treat /var/lib/puppet/facts as a file, but it exists as a directory. Normally /var/lib/puppet/facts is part of the factpath, so if it has been set to be used as something else, I think that would cause this error.

I did not get to move in puppet.conf I just created it with the

puppetmasterd - genconfig> puppet.conf

I then went inside and changed the "certname"

configured as explained in the book I bought on puppet PRO

I'm wondering if either /var/lib/puppet doesn't exist, or it doesn't have the permissions set so the puppet user and group can access it.  Does that directory exist?  What are the permissions there?
