Disable keyup event on CTRL+ click

Does anyone know how to disable or stop and bound keyup event method when the CTRL key is depressed?  

Right now my page responds to the keyup event and then filters the page by that character.  Well, if a user has made a selection on the page, like they are going to copy a name from the page, and they click CTRL+C, the keyup event fires and the page is filtered with the character "C".

Thanks for any tips on the matter.
