CLKI , CLKO

I'm studying the pins/ pin functions of the PIC on page 254 of the book and I'm trying to understand what the CLKI and CLKO pins are used for.  I have also looked over the data sheet as well but I only have an idea of what they might be used for.  Can anyone expand or give an example of how they would be used?

Jeff,

It's for connecting an external clock source (crystal, external oscillator, etc.). See http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/70227E.pdf#page=14.
