Hello,

I'm Taylor Otwell, author of the Laravel framework:

Laravel is a full-stack framework, and one of the top 5 most popular PHP projects on Github. Version 4 of the framework adopts PSR-0 and PSR-1, has its packages delivered by Composer, and utilizes a wide array of community packages including 7-8 Symfony components, Doctrine DBAL, Monolog, Patchwork UTF-8, SwiftMailer, Carbon, PHPUnit, and others. We also work closely with the AWS SDK for SQS queue integration via our unified queue API.

I've tried to focus on what makes Laravel unique by adopting these components which handle their respective tasks very well. So, as a developer, I'm very experienced with working with other packages, many of which are voting members of this group already. So, in practice, I've done quite a bit of "framework interoperability"! I'm particularly interested in interface definition, as I've found that interface design can make or break easy interoperability  especially with regards to the Interface Segregation Principle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interface_segregation_principle).

So, hopefully this is a good introduction to my interests and work. If there are any other questions I would be glad to answer them.

I forgot about the sponsor requirement (you'd think the guy who wrote
the bylaw would remember!).

If there is no current sponsor, I'm happy to serve in that capacity
for Laravel so continue voting ;)

I told Taylor to mention I was going to sponsor him, but I was out on my bike all day so didnt get a chance to say anything myself.

Taylor's continuing effort to build cool stuff in PHP, his great community participation and slick design pattern skills will make for a great asset to the FIG.

Please can you only vote if you are a voting member?

That's two of you on here making vote counting tricky.

Out of 26 member projects we now have 16 votes for and none against.

Welcome to the FIG Taylor.

Don't jump the gun, Phil; bylaw states:

"The time limit on a vote is 14 days from the time of the call for votes, or until all voting members have cast their vote, whichever comes first. Votes cast after the time limit are not valid."

So we need to wait the whole two weeks.

Very short complement since I'm not a voting member.
Agree with PMJ, also In this 2 weeks time-frame votes can be changed.

There were no complaints when Cal Evans noted the majority and called the end of the vote 3 days in for Padraic, why am I getting pushback for doing the exact same thing?

I can't say; if I had been paying attention, I would have made the same remarks then too. (Note that I did not participate in that particular vote.)

Fair enough, I was following the example of smooth-talking Cal.

This vote will still result in Taylor joining the FIG unless a bunch of people change their mind for some bizarre reason. We can click merge on my PR on May 4th, just so we follow procedure and whatnot.

Just a note to let votes play out for the two weeks before calling them - remember we track voting records under the Membership bylaw so the voting bylaw also has teeth when it comes to voting period allowed ;)

I'm wondering what the purpose of this really is, and whether it meets those objectives?

The stated idea of keeping the voting open for the full two weeks, is that people could in theory change their mind and cast their vote differently. However, if all members do vote, then the moment that last member votes, the door is slammed shut to anyone changing their minds.

I know practically it is not going to happen - all members being available, awake, not on holiday etc. - but should it not make people ask what that rule was meant to do? It either lets people change their mind, in which case the voting ought to be open for the full two weeks regardless of whether all members have cast a vote. Or it is there to ensure all projects are given a fair window to vote in, in which case the vote could be closed once quorum is reached (go Phil - jump to it;-). Instead there is a kind of hybrid that tries to have it both ways.

I'm not  a voting member, not trying to cause trouble, not even sure this is a voting thread without the [vote] in the title, but I do like to ask dumb questions :-)

Both objectives Jason. Ensure everyone had the time to participate AND to change their minds...
