Hi Folks,
Here are a couple of new and interesting scholcomm gadgets that might be worth your notice:
From OSIer Josh Nicholson (now the CEO of scite), scite has released a new feature called “smart citations,” that “uses deep learning to classify citation statements in three categories: those that provide disputing or supporting evidence, and others, which mention the cited study without providing evidence for its validity." See the summary here (https://www.linkedin.com/posts/joshua-nicholson_what-if-you-could-explore-a-field-of-research-activity-6702579785769484290-16LK) or test it out on a document at https://scite.ai/. From a startup called assembl comes a new product that allows researchers to blockchain timestamp and/or license ideas, articles, databases, etc. with the click of a button. The information artifact can then be freely shared without fear of losing track of the provenance (as might be the case if sharing happened with just CC-BY licensing). You need to set up an account at https://assembl.net/ to test it out (I’ve only looked at the page and haven’t tested it yet). Curious to know what you think of this idea. It’s a free resource for now.
