update - bike & pedestrian bridge, links to surveys - deadline Apr. 16

Hi folks,
Last night I attended the public meeting about the bike & pedestrian bridge to connect Coddingtown and the SMART train station on the west side of 101 and the JC on the east side. The bike & pedestrian bridge is a great opportunity to get people out of their cars! It's a fabulous way to increase walking and biking to SRJC and to nearby shopping, reduce traffic in the JC neighborhood, and reduce the need for cars and parking. Great for our health, makes for safer crossing Hwy 101 - and helps us reduce our carbon footprint!

They talked about two possible locations for the proposed bike & pedestrian bridge:

1) Elliott Ave & Edwards Ave.
2) Bear Cub Way

They talked about the advantages and disadvantages of both pathways. It sounds like they would have an much simpler time logistically building the bridge at Bear Cub Way and running to a residential neighborhood on the other side. But I'm definitely voting for the Elliott Ave & Edwards Ave location for the bike & pedestrian bridge. It's far more convenient for errands on either side of 101. And with all the evening classes at the JC, there will be more people around at night, and it will be safer. I would never use the Bear Cub Way path after dark.

I suggested the Dutch protected intersection for the intersection at Steele Lane & 101 which I consider to be very dangerous with a lot of blind spots for cars, pedestrians and cyclists, and the engineer acknowledged that the intersection at Steele Lane & 101 is one of the two busiest intersections in the city.
