hi everybody,

i tried to install openmeeting 1.7.0 on root-server with debian squeeze running by following these instructions:
http://bluespy.ws/en/news/Debian/Install-Openmeetings-On-Debian-Squeeze-6/

some things differed from this instructions:
- i didn't find all dev-packages for picture-formats named like there but mostly installed alternatives
- i downloaded and unzipped openmeeting 1.7.0 instead of 1.6.2
- i unzipped openmeeting not at root-home but somewhere at /var/opt/...
- there i didn't get folder 'red5' with folder 'webapps' in it but folder 'webapps' right were i unzpped openmeeting-zipfile (i did blame this to the newer version i worked with instead of the one used in the instructions)

i then with my web-browser opened http://myServerAdress:5080/openmeetings/Install, went to install step1 and there filled out the form.
after pushing 'continue' there seemes to be work quite a while.
next at adress 'http://myServerAdress:5080/openmeetings/install?command=step2' i see a completely blank page.
still there are no tables in my openmeetings-mysql-db.

when i then try to get to openmeeting-webapp via 'http://myServerAdress:5080/openmeetings' i see
'Autoconnect
NetConnection.Connect.Failed
rtmpt://myServerAdress:8088/openmeetings/hibernate'
and get
'Error Missing [204]
Error Missing [556]
Error Missing [642]'

i don't really know, if openmeeting finds 'hibernate' at /var/lib/red5/webapps/openmeetings/conf/hibernate.cfg.xml where.
hibernate.cfg.xml shoud be ok.

i tried to add a port to mysql-url in '/var/lib/red5/webapps/openmeetings/conf/hibernate.cfg.xml' ('myServerAdress:3306' ) and tried to use a different mysql-jar in '/var/lib/red5/webapps/openmeetings/WEB-INF/lib' which i succesfully use with a tomcat-webapp and mysql -> nothing changed.

this is my first try of installing openmeetings.
i would very much appreciate your assistance.

cheers,
kai

in openmeetings.log there is:

org.hibernate.HibernateException: Could not parse configuration: /usr/share/red5/webapps/openmeetings/conf/hibernate.cfg.xml

and later

Caused by: org.dom4j.DocumentException: /usr/share/red5/hibernate-configuration-3.0.dtd (No such file or directory) Nested exception: /usr/share/red5/hibernate-configuration-3.0.dtd (No such file or directory)

you did not use the provided ZIP file from our download directory.
Cause that one contains the file that is missing according to your log-file.

yes, i did. and in fact there is the missing file where i unzipped the downloaded zip-file.
looks like the installation-instruction i followed are incomplete.
so do i have to copy all unpacked files to /usr/share/red5 not just webapps/opnmeetings to /usr/share/red5/webapps?

Kai,

nowhere in the instructions @ http://code.google.com/p/openmeetings/wiki/InstallationOpenMeetings there is written down that you should copy ANY file out of the zip to somewhere else.

sorry, seems like we are misunderstanding each other.

i know, its written nowhere that i have to copy all.
following the installation-instructions i did only copy the webapps directory of openmeetings to the webapps directory of red5.
i didn't copy 'hibernate-configuration-3.0.dtd' to '/usr/share/red5' but obviously i shoud have done this, because there it is expected.

after i copied 'hibernate-configuration-3.0.dtd' to '/usr/share/red5' again i filled out the form at install?command=step1 and hit the install-button. i then saw the browser tried to connect but in browser-window nothing changed.
after restarting red5 openmeetings-installation was completed and i could login.
i didn't do any more testings so far.

thanks for your help and patience,
kai

Okay,

just to make sure follow-up users do not get confused too :))

*following the installation-instructions i did only copy the webapps directory of openmeetings to the webapps directory of red* => there is no such step in the instructions.

The instructions say in simple words: Download the ZIP, unpack it, config hibernate.cfg.xml => run it.
Nothing else.

hello,

as far as i can see by now the zip-package provided by openmeetings contains the complete red5-server so sebastian doesn't expect us to install red5 out of the debian-packages and deploy (copy) the openmeeting-webapp into an existing red5-server but to unpack the openmeeting-zipfile and run openmeeting with red5 right were we unpacked it.

on debian it works if you unpack the openmeeting-zip and run openmeeting with red5 right there.
if do an red5-installation out of deb-packages and deploy (copy) unpacked openmeeting-webapp into it you have to minimum copy 'hibernate-configuration-3.0.dtd' (in openmeetings.zip) to '/usr/share/red5'.

regards,
kai

Yes,

Kai is right. The Red5 server you do apt-get ... there are major
difference between the versions of Red5, so every OpenMeetings
installation contains its own Red5.

However we will get rid to this DTD with the next release of OpenMeetings.
