Hi all,
I don't know if my first message was to basic in the wording, but i can see that other questions are getting answered!

Like i mentioned in the previous message i can't change my profile image.
I have setup imagemajik, ffmpeg etc, but am unsure (after searching the forum) if i have correctly setup the paths.
I read somewhere that the windows path has to be setup and the admin config paths need to be removed.
I am really lost here and could use some precise info on setting up the correct paths.

Are these correct (seen from Admin>config)

C:\Program Files\SWFTools\gpdf2swf.exe
C:\Program Files\ImageMagick-6.7.2-Q16\imdisplay.exe
C:\sox-14-3-2\sox.exe
C:\Users\Atom Byte\ffmpeg-git-4f7dfe1-win32-static\bin\ffmpeg.exe

Within the adminconfig i can't see the path for ghostscript

I am using postgre which is obviously running and OOO headless seems to be running.

And all this on a windows vista machine (yeah i know).

HA ha, i also just noticed your profile image Sebastian, cool, i know what your doing!

Hi Skydiver,

there is no need to set any paths at all. If you configure those paths
in the %PATH% variable of your windows installation NO additional
configuration is required. Those config values are only an
alternative.

You should check your red5/openmeetings logfile for exceptions after
trying to upload a new profile image.

Ok thanks Sebastian,
I will go and check that now. I must add that i noticed a VERY fast message box display when hitting the save button, its so fast that its hard to see, but i get the impression that its an error message, to fast even to do a screen capture.

Back again,
I have checked the log files all of them i think. (they are in the 'LOG' folder?)

There are 2 access log files, i believe to be for each day i connect, the first one i think is when i installed everything

And there are 3 other files

error.log
openmeetings.log
red5.log

After looking at them, i tsarted to get a headache, i have no idea what i should look for or where.
Is there anything from any of the log files that i could/should post here for further examination?

"Exception" is the magic word to look for.
The access logfiles of course do not interest anybody.

Ok, i have gone through the 3 log files
error
openmeetings
red5

But i can't find the word 'Exception' anywhere!

Although i did find this in the openmeetings.log file, which is related to my image.

I understand you can't continually give out you time for nothing but i really would appreciate help getting this solved.

P.S. It was me that forgot my own phone number in English (lived in France for to long) :-D when i called about the paypal module!

Hi Dayne,

yes :) I heard your text on the answering machine

You might try and installing ImageMagick in a directory without
whitespaces in the path. And go from there.

But the best thing would be still:
Add all those executables to your %PATH% variable. That is teh way you
usually install things on windows! And if you do so you can leave ALL
configuration paths to converter tools in OpenMeetings BLANK and it
will work!

You can test each tool if it is successfully added in the %PATH%
variable by opening a "CMD" and then type any of the commands:
convert
gs
pdf2swf
ffmpeg
sox

If there is a programmatical return from each tool, everything is okay.

Hi Sebastian,

Im getting there slowly, thanks.

So far using the cmd, i can see that ImageMagick is correctly placed, but that is not my doing. On install you are given the option of adding it to the %path%. Easy!
Same thing for FFMPEG, but i really can't say how or why this is working.

but......
gs
pdf2swf
Sox

are giving me serious headaches.
I have tried installing and uninstalling with and without admin rights (vista)
When installing i use the installers and follow the instructions, which install things in the usual manner.

You talk about %path% ! Am i right in thinking this is Windows\System32 ?
If so, do i simple set the install to point here or is it a case off adding everything and installing from within.

I have tried going to the individual websites for help and googled everywhere, but just can't get clear info.
What i don't understand is that gs only installs a readme file, uninstall and a blank page with some copyright info,
When i launch pdf2swf it starts the application, so obviously it works!!!??
And sox seems to launch (rapidly) a black DOS window which then goes into hiding.

I just can't see where or what i am doing wrong.

cheers
Dayne

Hi Dayne,

GhostScript should be installed into the %PATH% automatically that, so
typing gs should work too.

%PATH% is not Windows\System32

PATH is the name of a variable
% is the variable identifer under windows
so if you type
%PATH% => returns the value of the variable PATH
open a cmd and type %PATH%

the variable PATH is the variable that windows will search for
executables. So you type ffmpeg it will look for a ffmpeg.exe in all
paths configured in the %PATH% variable. And normally you have already
10 or more paths in it separated with an semicolon ( ";" )

for example this is a value of a PATH:
C:\Programme\TortoiseSVN\bin;%Java_HOME%\bin;%M2_HOME%\bin;C:\Programme\Subversion\bin;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\Programme\Informix\Connect\bin;
%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;;C:\Programme\JProbe 8.3\bin

You can configure the variable by right clicking in the windows
explorer on your computer/home sign => properties the "advanced" tab,
then on the bottom "environment variables" .. you need to open a new
CMD everytime when you want to see changes you made to that.

So that is how it works on windows...

Sebastian thats great,

Following what you said i managed to get pdf2swf and sox to show using the CMD, but ghostscript is still not working.

When looking at the path, i could see imagemagick, and the newly added functions amongst others but no trace of ghost script. By following what you said i tried to add the path for GS as i did with sox and pdf2swf, but keep getting the same message under the CMD:

C:\Users\MyMachine>gs
'gs' is not recognised as an internal or external command, an exe ou file command.

Or words to that effect, sorry im on a French PC (unsure of correct translation)

This is the setup path
C:\Program Files\gs\

When i tried to add to the %PATH% i used these:
;C:\Program Files\gs\
;C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.02\
;C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.02\bin\
;C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.02\bin\gswin32c.exe

nothing seems to work, maybe you can see where i am going wrong.
So close but yet so far.

C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.02\bin\

is the path I guess.

maybe you need to run gswin32c and thats it. Under Linux its "gs".

Sebastian,

I guess its not working for me! :(

I have gswin32c running in the background which also opens a ghostscript image window?
With a new CMD dialogue i have tried every possible combination i can think of and it keeps giving off the unrecognised error.

what a paradox, so stressful and yet fun at the same time.

I'll keep trying for a while, but i am out of ideas and combinations.
I really don't want to drop the idea because of one last setup obstacle, i have come so far and can see openmeetings running on my machine. I have managed to create a new user with organisation and a 2way room. I can see my webcam working (with clear image) and obviously its exactly what i need for my project.

 VERY  :-(

OK thanks.

Just a couple of final questions for this topic (i hope).

Based on your previous explanation, i removed imagemagick from the admin>config path within OM
I also did this for sox, ffmpeg and swifttools.............is that Ok/correct?
I can't see anything that stopped working, on the white board i have managed to upload and display a .jpg, a text file and a pdf file.

I can now change the profile image.
Is there a limit on size PX and resolution for this image?

I am going to play around with setting up the email now.

Thanks for all your help and patience. Its been a great learning experience.

Hi Dayne,

yes as soon as its in the %path% you can remove all those manually set
up paths in admin->config.

The limit of image size and resolution is the max upload size. I think
its 100MB at the moment.

Good luck with it Dayne!

Thanks Sebastian,

Its more than i need, it was just a question of not having to resize over and over again untill i find the correct dimensions (square i believe)

I feel like a kid with a new toy at Christmas, i can't wait untill i manage to get the whole thing working and actually chat with somebody.

Thanks once again, its just to cool, really!
