I have 80 Acer Aspire One netbooks here in 4 different models. Makes for fun times.

My V2 model is a NAV-50. Also listed on the back is 532h-2622.

Using the newest config tool and newest image (from just a few days ago) I could install the image to this V2 fine but... the wifi would come up, go down. Up, down. Up... down again. Up again and... then down.

Does anybody have these same machines?

What config tool and image can I use on these?

Thanks!

Brendan stated that he hopes to get the config tool fixed tonight.  The latest image is GM1....actually much longer name, but ends in GM1.  Last year I stopped making hardware specific images...as it's not really necessary....Linux is good about loading what it needs.  Acer netbooks can be fun sometimes.  A year or so ago, I had two Acer Aspire One's...both manufactured within a day of each other....each had an entirely different wireless chipset.  Did you get the image by way of the Usbstick or by way of manually downloading from open1to1.msln.net?  The very latest image (put there a couple days ago....ends in GM1 and is in the /Images folder at open1to1.msln.net   I have also renamed the files so that they will now work when using the usb tool if you choose to do the download that way.  As for the config tool (for renaming and passwords)...hopefully tonight brendan will have a fix for us.  :-)

I am using the 9-14 image, definitely. I downloaded it and manually copy it to the images dir after using the usbmaker.

Its something with the specific wifi card, has to be. Working perfectly on the newest Acer Aspire One model... but not on this older one!

OK freak show update.

The WIFI Bounces on and off on the student account ONLY.

The behavior does NOT occur on the administrator account.

Any help? Otherwise I have to try to find old images and old configurator to work with them... UGH!

OK Scratch that. Bounces on any account.

So... I have a single image working on V4 (newest) V3 and even V1 (broadcom!) acer netbooks. Awesome!

The V2 is my ONLY barrier. Not awesome.

The WIFI goes up and down, up and down, up and down.

Everything else is IDENTICAL to ALL THE OTHER NETBOOKS in terms of image, configurator etc. Identical flash drives, everything.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THE BOUNCY WIFI ISSUE?

THANKS!

(Im pulling my hair out)

Mike...more specifics about the actual netbook....what kind of network card?  Model number of the laptop?  I want to help you research this.

Hi all,
Just checking in. My shop works with the Asus 1005HA netbook. Any idea when the updated imaging flash drive might be ready? I'm using Clonezilla and it's ok, but many steps involved to initiate each imaging session and I'm not ready to try something like network imaging.
Thanks,

What brand of access points are you using? I have a meru wireless network and had to turn off virtual cell in order for our acer and asus netbooks to stop bouncing.

Mike...I found this....give it a try....look at post #46 and try those steps...let me know if it works.  My research shows that your network card is a PIA...and doesn't seem to work well with 802.11n  Many sites indicate that it seems to work fine in G only.  Nonetheless, try this first:

Thanks, reading those now.

Here is what is odd.

ALL OF THESE MACHINES CONNECTED FINE WITH THE OLDER IMAGE AND CONFIGURATOR.

The only change in the entire system... is the newest configurator and image that is working on ALL of my other machines now.

Randy,

Im running an Aruba managed wireless network.

Ill check for virtual cell.

What is odd is that its the Ubuntu image... not the card or network or anything else. These netbooks connected perfectly with the OLD image!

If you want to try last years image and config tool....I think you can find both in the OLD folder in the Images folder at open1to1.msln.net   To make the configuration tool, you should use one of the boot-old files....I think the one from last year is boot-old2.iso   Use one of the newly imaged laptops...download boot-old2.iso then go to System Tools > Administration > Startup Disk Creator.....browse to where the iso file is and run it.  (I could be wrong on where the Startup Disk creator program lives...trying to do this from memory)

The image from last year is also in that folder.  There is also a 2011 image ISO file in the /Beta folder....you can put that on and test it as well.

I really want to solve this bugaboo. These machines were fine with the older image, but I now have all V1, 3 and 4 machines identical with the newest image and I want to get the V2s coming along for the ride!

I looked over those threads. Lots in there, got a bit lost - decided to start my own thread:

If anybody wants to add anything to it please do!

Is it true that the most current image is edubuntu 12.04?

Thanks again all!

yes it is....there are no really significant modifications other than artwork.  We simply install the apps for you...and make some minor cosmetic tweaks.

SOLVED!

Please open a terminal and do:
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Add a line at the very end.
Code:
blacklist acer-wmi
Proofread twice, save and close gedit. Now do:
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/rc.local
Add one line above exit 0
Code:
rfkill unblock all
Proofread twice, save and close gedit.

Reboot. Post back to confirm to me that every change was done perfectly as requested and to tell me how your wireless is working.

I have NO idea what this does but... it worked magic. No more bouncing WIFI.
