Hi there, ive always been wondering, why there are no VFD tubes that would have the symbols in more layers, not just one layer with segments. Is it due to some technical limitation?

Because there is no reason to. When you can make segments, one layer is all you need. Also, it's not easy.

The grid probably has to be the same distance from the cathode to keep
the same turn on and off - which would mean making a structure for both
grid and cathode for each layer.
