It happened to me last year, around this time. Now its happening again. I sell some small electronics items on eBay. I ship them around the world. But sometimes German Customs, get a burr up its A**, and sit on one of my parcels for 6 weeks or more. Its getting to the point where I will forbid German buyers ! No problems in Italy or Romania ... Aarrgh !

Hi,

never happened to me. Granted, delays in the order of one week are to be
expected, but this includes the notification from customs as well as
finding a day to pick up the parcel. You never know, the buyer may have
never received the customs notification, or it got lost, etc.

Sometimes, upon arrival, parcels are dealt with in customs
automatically, and if the value does not exceed a specified sum, it
immediately gets back on the road. If not, you need to pick it up, see
above.

None of these steps ever took more than two weeks for me, I am very
surprised with the large timespan of six weeks.

Best regards (from Germany ;-) )
Jens

I just corresponded with one of the buyers. He recommended attaching an invoice, and shipping costs. Will a simple customs declaration not suffice ? Or is he blowing smoke. We're talking a $24 item, for Pete's sake !

Happens sometimes with Norwegian Customs: They hold the parcel, they
say they sent a notice (often I don't get them). They request me to
send them the invoice although the invoice was already attached to the
parcel in a plastic slip with big friendly INVOICE on it. Happens to
items worth of 1000 or 10 of dollars. Maybe DE Customs are similar?

Yes, Marcin, exactly. Including a readable invoice does not help, it is
frustrating...

It is frustrating. And infuriating whey after a month of waiting I am
finally getting my item for which I have to pay equivalent of $10 USD
in duties plus $25 USD costs of calculating those duties.
International shipping is a PITA. But for us stuck in the middle of
nowhere there are no other options. Please do ship internationally! ;)
BTW I have never lost a parcel sent to me using the cheapest USPS
first class.

On March 12th, John Taylor's HVSP ($13.95) and a Teensy++ board with some accessories ($48.83) were shipped to me. The former reached me on March 26th, the latter on April 26th costing €7 import tax, taking 6.5 weeks 8-O

Another German customer sent me a message asking about a spinner kit I shipped to him back on April 26. Anybody have a clue why these bozos sit on a package this long ? Job security ? Power freak ?

I also sent out a parcel to Germany last year, took ages to arrive (at
least 8 weeks). No troubles when using Fedex or TNT though.

Has anyone ever shipped something to Egypt lately? Does that give any
troubles?

Buying in Canada gives the same delay, but that's due to Canada Post.
I had once to wait over three months and just agreed with the seller he
should refund the payment. Two hours later the tube was delivered; pretty
coincidence !
