D3200 in Live-View: Photo transfer will not happen if the "AUTO FOCUS" button has been used before clicking the "CAPTURE" button

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start up Digicamcontrol.

2. Attach a D3200 with lens via USB and switch it on. I used the kit lens (18-55mm VR). Make sure the lens is in AF mode.

3. Click the "Live view"-Icon in Digicamcontrol. The live view window should pop up.

4. Click the "CAPTURE" button in the live view window. An image should be taken. In the background you can see the photo transfer happening. Subsequently, the image shows up in the list of images taken.

5. Leave the live view window open, just like it is. Now click the "AUTO FOCUS" button. The camera should autofocus.

6. Click the "CAPTURE" button in the live view window (again). I'd expect another image to be taken now and be transferred. Instead, I can hear the camera taking an image, but the transfer never happens. As illustrated, this IMO wrong behaviour happens only when using the "AUTO FOCUS" button before clicking the "CAPTURE" button. I think this is a bug.

I am using Digicamcontrol 0.8.326 on Windows 7. Photos were taken using ISO 100, f 3.5 aperture, 18mm focal length (set manually on the lens), RAW "compression", Multi-pattern metering mode, Focus mode [A]

Can you help me with this?

Thanks a lot.

Hey Duka!

Thanks for taking care of this.

Here you go.

That's the complete logfile as found on the file system.

I had to drop it into a pastebin URL, since google groups would always complain about an error 340 when I tried to send my reply with the file attached.

I think that it is essential that Raw is selected as "compresion" option for the bug to take effect. Everything seems to work as expected when "Raw + JPEG" is selected.

Kind regards,

Daniel

Hi, i take a look on log but i don't find any reason for you problem i try same operation with my D5100, but for me everything is working, but there are other problem related find in log file first you need to install a  raw image codec pack : Microsoft Camera Codec Pack  or NEF Codec and the second the D3200 not support autofocus using live view (or i don't find any solution for it because the D3200 don't have any official MTP documentation), but this shouldn't stop the capture process.

Hey Duka!

Thanks a lot.

After installing the codec pack the transfer of raw files now also works when first clicking the "AUTOFOCUS" button.

I guess it was a mere side effect of not having the codec installed.

I can also report that focusing works just fine with the D3200. You just have to make all detail settings using the camera (like which specific AF point to use). But clicking the "AUTOFOCUS" button will actually make the camera autofocus, which is all I need.

The only issue the software seems to have with focusing using the D3200 is that the focused part of the image is not properly highlighted in the live view window. I think the intention is to highlight it with a red border. The border is shown, but actually it gets rendered layered right on top of the menu items, not on top of the live view image. Maybe you can have a look at that. Apart from that, autofocusing works fine.

Attached to this message you will find a screenshot, so you can see what I mean:

I also uploaded the latest log entries, just in case it matters: http://pastebin.com/DwzZZ2XN

Kind regards,

Daniel
