You'd probably want to set a reminder on a recurring task, at specific hours, not ?

That kind o structure:
-Flags
--Memorial Day /recurring : yearly the last monday of May
---[]Raise / reminder at xx am
---[]Lower / reminder at xx pm
--Independance Day /recurring : yearly every July 4
---[]Raise / reminder at xx am
---[]Lower / reminder at xx pm

etc.

I like to fly the flag on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

I often forget to raise the flag on Flag Day because it is just another work day. I sometimes forget to lower the flag before dark.

Can someone experienced with MyLifeOrganized suggest an outline structure to remind me to raise the flag in the morning and lower the flag at dusk? Can I use recurrence for this or must I have separate actions for each raising and lowering?

Thanks.

I agree, annual occurrence on the parent is probably what I would do. I'd probably do this by creating one copy without the word "Memorial" just "day" as a template. I usually set my reminders to be a bit after I usually remember, so that if I remember they never go off, so maybe an hour after dusk, for example.

Then, click "Lock period", "Ctrl-D" to duplicate, edit name, date, everything else should stay the same.

Normally, I'd mark the original template "hide-in-todo" , but that won't stop alarms I think, so I probably would just use it or delete it, and then duplicate a different instance if I thought of another holiday.

Lastly, for any that have too odd of a recurrence pattern, I usually have an extra child task, e.g., "reset Easter flag tasks for next year".  You change the parent, and then the children inherit.

Thank you robisme and Lisa S.

Your suggestions will help me setup my outline.

I hadn't though through recurrence differences between date oriented holidays (Flag Day), Monday holidays (Labor Day), and other holidays (Easter).

If you see the flag flying outside my house on Wednesday, you'll know it worked.

Be sure that your Memorial Day has a reminder to two-block it, then lower to half mast, and at noon set another reminder to two-block it again.  And thank you for the idea of making this an MLO recurrence, Joel.  I hadn't thought of that.
