hello dev team.
i upgraded my win7pro to win8pro. everything went fine so far. only issue is, that i can't sync via wifi anymore with my android mlo to desktop(each latest release of the app). i unpaired both desktop and mobile device. repairing doesn't work. nothing changed in my network settings and firewall (comodo) is deactivated. windows firewall is set by group/domain policy which wirked perfect with win7. any suggestions what to do?

Hello,

I have just double checked and WiFi sync works for me on Windows 8 Consumer Preview build 8250.
I am an Administrator on this computer.

Here are the steps I did:
1) Downloaded MLO in zip file from our website.
2) Unpacked the zip file to any folder
3) Run MLO (Windows 8 prevented the start of the app and I forced it to start)
4) Windows 8 asked if I allow MLO as exception in Firewall. I confirmed.
5) Open MLO settings on WiFi page and confirmed that WiFi server has started with MLO.
6) Paired my Android (iPhone) with this MLO instance
7) Synced.

Please try to re-install mlo or unzip it to other folder and start again. Try to start it as administrator.

Andrey.

I too can confirm that I'm suffering from the same issue.

I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro on the weekend, and while the MLO application seems to work fine, the wi-fi sync no longer works. When attempting to connect from an Android device the PIN entry dialog is never displayed. Here's what I've tried/observed:
  • I can ping from the Android device to the machine no problem.
  • Turning off the firewall and Defender made no difference.
  • I can RDP to the machine so it can detect and accept incoming connections.
  • The wi-fi sync works to a Windows 7 Home Premium VM (Virtualbox) on the same machine using a bridged adapter.
Therefore, it looks as though it's a Windows 8 specific issue at this point.

Hi Andrey,

I followed your steps. Including firewall settings and running as an admin. The PIN entry dialog doesn't pop up. The Android-MLO first showing the pin which should be entered in (the never appearing) dialog box on my desktop. After a while it shows, that it could not reach my pc.

As Nerkster experienced the same, with windows 7 it's working (even in a virtual environment on a win 8 machine!), i think it is a win 8 issue somehow.

Thomas.

Works fine on my Win8pro.
I see that I have mlo in allowed apps list (windows firewall) - I'm not sure if I added that or if it was added automatically during installation.
I also have UAC disabled.

Let's try to change the Port for MLO WiFi sync on desktop and see if it works:

1) Run regedit.exe

2) Open:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
MyLifeOrganized.net\MyLife\WiFiSync

3) Edit:
Port (DWORD) - change it to 21031

Restart MLO on desktop and try to WiFi pair again. Will it work?

Andrey.

just to note, same problem here. MLO Wifi sync was working properly on win 7. In win 8 it doesn't.

I followed all the steps described in this thread with no luck (re-install, change port, restart pc, restart mobile, reset firewall settings, give access to MLO in windows firewall, run as admin).

Still waiting for a solution.

thanks

Hi Nerkster,

May I ask you to make more test with telnet command?

1. Enable telnet in windows 8:
http://www.sysprobs.com/install-and-enable-telnet-in-windows-8-use-as-telnet-client

2. Run MLO on windows 8

3. Verify in MLO: Tools->Options-> WiFi Synchronization that WiFi server is started

4. Run command in windows command line:
telnet localhost 21030
(replace 21030 to 21031 if you changed this setting in registry with other tests I recommended earlier)

5. Send to me (or post here) the response of telnet command.

Thanks!

Andrey.

And if telnet from the same computer works can you do the same from other computer or mobile device (assuming you have telnet installed on it)
telnet <Computer_IP> 21030

just try it right now. Both the PC and the mobile device are able to connect to port 21030. I get nothing on the telnet screen.

nononame, Nerkster and yioann,

I have just sent you an email with the link on a new Android version and instructions how to test wifi pairing on Win8.
Please drop me an email if you did not receive the email.

Thanks!

Andrey,

Telnet connects to the MLO port both locally and remotely (from telnet on a Mac).

It basically says it is connected to the machine and then there is no further display.

When trying to telnet to another port, it just says contacting host, so I guess that confirms it is at least connecting to MLO when the right port is used.

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrey,

Just tried it. The first version (i.e. first link) didn't work. The second one worked as expected. I have provided the log files in both scenarios. I hope that now you can find the bug and provide a fix.

Yes it looks like we may have the same issue with iPad and iPhone. We are working on a fix.

Hi there,

Does this problem exist with the iPad app? I am currently running the latest available from the UK store, and seeing the same problems. Have run through all the suggestions posted in this thread, but to no avail.

Many thanks,

Rob
