Dear Mnemosyners and particularly Peter Bienstman:
quote from Peter Bienstman :
Post reply
Sep 12
"Other option is running Mnemosyne's web server on your desktop machine, and then doing the reviews in your browser on your Playbook, but that requires network access, obviously.
Peter "
Getting message on Playbook browser: "Can't find file xxx.xxx.1.65:8513 which is the number which the Mnemosyne's server gave me in the DOS window: "...listening on http://xxx.xxx.1.65:8513" My husband thought the first six numbers were the number of our server.
Particulars: Network is through the router the service provider set up (do you need it's name and particulars?) working on XP. Mnemosyne 2.2. Blackberry Playbook OS version 2.1.0.1314 (latest it says). Playbook IPV4 XXX.XXX.1.67 what ever that means.
Opened Mnemosyne server in the Mnemosyne program file. Got the DOS screen with the message: "server listening on http://xxx.xxx.1.65:8513" next line down had a winking cursor.
Mnemosyne program: tried it both ways: the program not open and open with cards up ready to be reviewed.
On the Blackberry Tablet. Opened browser and typed in the Google search line the http://xxx.xxx.1.65.8513. Google responded with "your search did not match any documents."
Searched through the Tablet looking for anything that would identify the tablet thinking maybe the blinking cursor wanted a number identifying the Tablet. I found a Tablet number called a 1PV4 which was xxx.xxx.1.67. That looked like the same first numbers that Menosyne server was waiting on. Tried to type them in at the Mnenosyne server curser on the DOS screen but it wouldn't let me.
Also, when I first opened the DOS screen through the Server, it didn't want to stay up even long enough for me to read its message. I kept hitting it and finally it stayed up with the blinking curser. When I tried again starting over.... it wouldn't stay up long enough to read the message. That might have been when I also had Mnemosyne program up with the cards selected.
Question: It seems to me that the Tablet is not looking in the correct spot for my http address. It seems like it is out somewhere in cyberspace.
Peter, I know you have worked so hard on this project and I love it. Since you have also put in time and effort on the Server part, I wonder if you could help me with this .... or maybe I can be your tester on my server and Blackberry Tablet combo. But, I do hope that I'm just not doing something right or misunderstanding. I combed the internet and this site but there isn't very much specific information on this facet of Mnemosyne.
P.S.: I don't have any Python etc experience at all. I guess I'm what might be called "an average female front-end-user".
tlmdamm.

Be very careful with the address. You said ... :8513, but then later used "... .8513". Notice the difference between the colon ":" and the dot "." in the second example.

Michael: I checked those numbers and the one on the Blackberry did have a dot before the 8513 and the one on the Mnemosyne server had a colon before the 8513. Significant?
Also, I have two other thoughts on this problem. When I was trying to check that number on the Mnemosyne Server screen it kept disappearing. Could it be that my router is shutting it down to protect my system because there is no security? Do I need to make a hole in my fire wall for this Mnemosyne Server?
Is it only a threat to security when it is open and running?
Also, on the Blackberry end.... could it be that the numbers that the Server gives me and says it is listening at.... should I be looking for those in a different place? Not at the Browser.
Ok, to explain this better... when we want to connect the Blackberry Playbook to the net... say at McDonalds,... we have to put in numbers that connect to their server. My blackberry is automatically connecting to our own server's network and connecting to the outside cyberspace. Am I instead trying to come in to my server on the numbers it gives me? And should I look for them there at that 'connect to server' spot on the Playbook? You can tell that I'm not the one that does that part of it.

Hi,
Yes, you do need to make a hole in your firewall if you want to access
it from outside, which could be non-trivial and depends on your router /
firewall...

Hi everyone,
I would like to review my cards on my Ipad. I followed the instructions about syncing on the Mnemosyne website. I run the mnemosyne web server application on my laptop and got the ip address. Then, I tried to connect to the server on my Ipad, but Safari cannot open the page. What can I do?
Thank you.

You have to make sure that there is e.g. no firewall on your laptop or
router in your network blocking the connection. (And of course, at the
risk of stating the obvious, make sure the laptop is still running).
