I recently converted a bunch of front-to-back card to vocal cards (because they are vocal cards).

Since I have used vocal card type seldom I did not realize that the meaning side of the card is also created as a sister card (meaning->word). In this instance this probably will just create more work for learning, as I only need to learn word->meaning. So, now I want to convert them back to front->back, however then ALL the learning history will get deleted for the cards.
Is there a work-around for retaining the learning data for the correct sister card when converting?

Why don't you just keep them as Vocubulary cards, but deactivate
'Recognition' and keep 'Production' (or some variant of that)?

 Hi Gnome.
Quote: "I have used vocal card type seldom ";

 So, you were reviewing Vocabulary Sister cards in the past; did not object to them - bcs they 'made sence' to you; and they are still in the Deck.  I just want to alert you on "De-activate Recognition cards":    you will not see those older cards, too.

 Your woes are 'my fault :-) ' because I've been sitting on a Suggestion to "Warn about using History BEFORE it is too late".
So, I am suggesting it now.

May I ask what you meant by 'vocal' ?

3. "Change Type" has even bigger 'landmine' - there is no warning that you will loose information contained in fields which you could not select to convert - bcs number of fields are not the same in card Types being converted.

  And, thank you Gnom for helping me out in my tumultuous times 3 mo ago when I was starting my journey here.

PS. If I were in this situation, I would scheduled cards -- you just converted -- Manually, for awhile {until they are mature enaugh for you}.  I devised this Manual Scheduling for cards which repeatedly show up toooo early. I schedule them in intervals 'close' to what is suggested by many sources. But I have a latitude to increase or decrease the Interval; it depends on how easy or hard {by MY estimation - not Mnemosyne's} the card has been to recall.

Good luck.

I think mnemosyne keeps the learning history when converting front->back type to vocal type, however I think mnemosyne should keep the learning history that can be kept. For example when converting a vocal to front->back, and choosing the word as the front and the meaning as the back the learning history for vocabulary recognition should be copied.

Vocabulary cards :) They are cards containing the meaning of Latin and Greek parts of words, prefixes and suffixes commonly used.
Since I only need to recall the meaning the word on the test, I have no need to recall the word based on its meaning.

No problem :)

I'm not sure what you mean by "Manual scheduling". I think setting and detecting the interval manually would be to time consuming in my opinion, I just grade it to 5 if the card is very easy to recall.
