What's the max speed settings on a Makerbot Replicator 1 ?

Hi,

What's the fastest you've ever run your bot printing with a Replicator 1 ? Something substantial, not just a calibration cube. At least bottle opener sized.

I've been printing out at the default settings for ABS with my Replicator 1; 41 mm/s (220 C print, 110 C HBP, 56mm/s travel)  print speed settings. However, I was wondering, what's the max speed settings that I could use? mm/s print? mm/s travel? temp HBP? temp print? Anything else? I need to print faster, if possible.

I did some calculations and weight extruded ABS bearing experiments to see how feasible it is to print out a bicycle. As long as I design around extruded ABS's weaknesses, just like the guy with the cardboard bicycle ( http://youtu.be/bcslpvTyft4 ), I'm sure that the ABS plastic bicycle would work. The bicycle would look very, very weird because of these design workarounds, but it would work. My friend thinks it looks cool and futuristic. I just think it plain looks weird. Anywho..., printing it out is another matter. I calculated that it would take 13 kg of filament and 1000 hours to print out at my default settings. Is there a way to cut that down to 163 hours? I mean, In other words, is it possible to print at 252 mm/s?

Does the latest version of firmware & replicatorg get rid of the printing problems & bugs with acceleration? I'll probably need acceleration to print at those speeds, if possible, because otherwise the replicator would tear itself apart as it is printing too fast. I want to get it down to 1/6 the time because I don't want to leave the bot printing while I am not at home. That's a fire hazard.

100 mm/s is not difficult to get to, at least with acceleration. 120 mm/s is doable for some plastics and with a clean MK8 extruder that is well tuned. Anything around 150 seems to be beyond the extruder to keep up with the 1.75 mm filament, as Jetty and Dan have reported. 

My default Replicator print speed is 100 mm/s extrusion and 200 mm/s travel. I expect I could make that travel faster. 

There is quite a lot of interest to see if the QU BD style extruder will allow for greater print speed, but so far I have not heard any results there. 

It sounds like you need to make big parts quickly, but don't care as much about the surface finish. You might think about trying a larger bore nozzle. I believe you could get thicker layers, and thus faster prints, that way. MakerGear maybe?
