Although I adore GoldenDict as
* free open-source
* full of features
* cross-platform
dictionary software

I realised several disadvantages of it
Firstly, it has to be INSTALLED
Secondly, it has to be installed separately for each operating system having another distibutive for each of them
Then you don't have an opportunity to perform full-text search within notes on valsi which is sometimes needed.
After all, many devices lie smartphones are not covered by this app at all !

So let me introduce fricukt alpha version based on TiddlyWiki and Goldendict dsl dictionaries.
Here is where you can get the latest build (fricult***.htm file).

This is how it is supposed to work.
It's just a webpage that should be understood by most devices (as HTML is covering more and more devices)
It performs full text search.
Currently only one dictionary (simplified gismu)is included.
But it's inside the file itself.

So you just download  and run it.
Type any gismu or translation into the  "sisku" field and you are done.

As the underlying code is simple everyone is free to improve fricukt.
I was able to run it even from my very old phone.

What do you think of fricukt (bearing in mind that it's alpha version) ?

I think you should get together with Luke, who wrote QuickDict way back in the day, and then, much to my own disappointment, stopped working on it.

QuickDict was also intended as an alternative to GoldenDict, and it was able to look up entries directly from jbovlaste, IIRC. If it weren't for the fact that the link to DL it appears to be broken, I'd still be using it.

Unfortunately QuickDict had the same disadvantages as GoldenDict. Wasn't cross-platform, had no fulltext search.

I announce fricukt here as a simple tool that is just HTML. It will be able to run as a html widget in Windows 8, webOS or Tizen.

Anyway it's really seems to be universal and requires no prior knowledge or computers. Just use it.
Yet it's just alpha version. But has much potential.

QuickDict was going to be ported to a cross-platform language, but, as I said, development ceased.

I don't even know what you mean by full text search.

Regarding fricukt, pressing enter doesn't work: I typed "gismu" into the search bar and hit enter, nothing happened. In order to search, I have to manually press the "sisku" button.

Also, if it's a web page, why does it need to be downloaded? Wouldn't it be better to give it a web address? Any device which is capable of accessing it by definition has web access, and it would be much simpler to users to simply access that site- no need to download the latest version or what-have-you.

Third, with the current selection of jbovalsi searching (jbovlaste, vlasisku, even http://jbotcan.org/gismulinked.html ), what does this do that they don't?

I haven't downloaded this program yet, but is it in the spirit of
TiddlyWiki (http://www.tiddlywiki.com/) or Wiki on a Stick
(http://stickwiki.sourceforge.net/)?

I had wondered what the use of a tool like that was until someone
put a manual for a complex topic down in front of me. All of the
sudden I could write notes, make corrections, and otherwise use
the reading material to improve my comprehension. It was great.

Is that what you're doing here? Having a single-page application
containing Lojban reference material would be very neat.

Indeed. To me, full text search means "mu li" returns, among other
phrases Lojbanic, parts of the document containing the phrase
"gismu list".

jbovlaste requires internet access which is not cheap for some parts of the world.
Whereas fricukt can run both online in the form of a web page or just as a local web page.

GoldenDict's simplified gismu, gismu mnemonics, wiktionary etymology are not in jbovlaste.
Also note that GoldenDict has some dictionaries with pictures which can also be ported to fricukt later.

TiddlyWiki was chosen as a simple way to apply javascripts.

Pressing enter doesn't work, yea. Even the output is not perfect at all.
Right now I'm just showing the idea.

QuickDict is not written in HTML which I prefer cuz Google Chrome OS, Tizen, iPads, webOS devices are on the rise.
They all can handle web pages. So no extra coding is required. Just copy one file or one folder and fricukt can be immediately launched.

awww, I'm glad to hear that it was well-liked.  I'll see about getting the link fixed and putting it on the lojban.org software page or something when I get home.

The fundamental issue is, if you want an application that can be very tightly integrated with any arbitrary application (i.e. looking up a gismu that's in a text document opened in notepad.exe on windows) then you need a downloaded application.  There are pros and cons for this.  A webapp of some kind has pros and cons as well.

hmmmm.  This requires some thought.

It seems to work on Android Opera, as far as it goes. "Come" finds
nothing, nor does "Klama", but "klama" does.

Glad to hear that it works on your device.
I just uploaded a new version of fricukt.
It's now able to search for "Klama", not only "klama" and the search is run by pressing 'enter', not a separate button.

Feature request: ordering or prioritization; e.g. searching "test" gets three {canti} results before a {cipra} result.

It would also be really nice if
a) there were a single entry for {canti} with sub-entries for {lo canti} and {lo se canti}, rather than three entries at the same level.
b) each entry had its own page, like http://vlasisku.lojban.org/ , with references.

I'm not sure if this is in the planned interface, but I think it would be nice.

No, not either or, both. That button needs to be there for devices which don't have keys, and for people that aren't computer savvy and don't know keyboard shortcuts.

On a computer, which has a keyboard, pressing the enter key is faster and easier than pressing the button.

On a touch device such as a smart phone or tablet, the reverse is usually true.

Agreed. It should be sorted according to closest match ("test" matches closer to "test" than it does to "intestines"), not alphabetical.

Suggestion No 1 will require recompiling the whole "simplified gismu" dictionary.
Suggestion No 2 is not clear to me. May be you mean jbovlaste-like interface with notes and glosswords ?

There is no planned interface. Everything is done in HTML and Javascript.
So there are a lot of opportunites for improving. I think those two suggestions are reachable.

By the way fricukt was updated a bit.

Searching by pressing enter is broken now, and the search button isn't back as suggested, so the page is effectively broken.

When I navigate to la fricukta and enter a test word, pressing 'enter'
now does the same thing that clicking the 'kuot.' button does. Which

Both enter and .kuot. work for me now, on http://fricukt.tiddlyspot.com/, on 7.0.1 on OSX Lion.

Also, searching "as" gives a noticeable delay (as expected), but it would be nice if it behaved more like imgur (only load the top first; load the rest later).

Do Mac OS's browsers perceive 'enter' key now ?
Is the delay with two-letter words the only bug for now ?

That appears to be the case.

However, two-letter words being slow is a side effect, and a low priority bug (you may want a bug tracker).

How are you modifying the file? I might be able to help (if I find time).

I thought that kind of thing didn't matter?

Win7 64bit, whatever the latest version of Firefox is (6.something, I believe).

So pressing 'enter' is not successful in your computer as well ?

I just checked again, and it works now, btw, both pressing enter and the button.

You should read more about TiddlyWiki. I can't give you a link cuz TiddlyWiki is too popular so just google "TiddlyWiki" and you'll see.
The shortest answer is that when you press the "edit" button on the right side of "sisku" title the underlying code of "sisku" macro appears.
It's obviously in pure html and javascript.

After applying changes press "done" or  "Ctrl+enter" (or "cmd+enter") to test them.

In order to save changes in the file you should operate a copy downloaded from  http://fricukt.tiddlyspot.com/ website to your local pc.
Also a java (not javascript) file should be placed in the same folder next to fricukt.html
It's called TiddlySaver.jar (google it)
You should allow java run on fricukt.html page.
For applying changes locally press "backstage" in the upper right corner and than "save" item in the top menu.

I introduced the limit of 30 results for each type of search.
Also now there are three versions of this app, namely alpha, beta and stable (all on the same page).
I don't think bugtracker is needed by now. AFA I can access the code is not more than 50 lines.

I found one noticeable benefit of fricukt compared to GoldenDict.
E.g. you enter UI1 and fricukt displays the whole list of valsi belonging to this selmaho. I think it's handy.

The one on tiddlyspot doesn't seem to have the limit.

Searching "valsi" takes several seconds, which is pretty good, but returning over 9000 results isn't what a user might want.

It also seems to have disappeared from the slovlacukt page.

Try once again. For me it returns  Too many results. Truncated  message after 30 results in each search mode (separate words, headers, full-text search).
Please use sisku (alpha) which always as the latest features.
BTW, fricukt file was removed from slovlacukt. The only link is now  http://fricukt.tiddlyspot.com/
In order to download it click the corresponding link below the title.

Waiting for new requests...

That appears to be the case.

However, two-letter words being slow is a side effect, and a low priority bug (you may want a bug tracker).

How are you modifying the file? I might be able to help (if I find time).

Let's refresh the list of bugs.
Do Mac OS's browsers perceive 'enter' key now ?
Is the delay with two-letter words the only bug for now ?
