Is there a way to use the API to add a login screen for justin/
twitch.tv on my site? Just a way so people could login from there to
be able to chat and all. Thank you ahead of time!

Hi Wade,

We're launching twitch connect (SSO) very soon.

This would be very useful.  I'm curious if this has been released yet.  If you need a beta tester let me know.

Thanks for your interest in integrating TwitchTV into your site, it's great to hear! We released the Twitch OAuth 2 API and associated JavaScript SDK a few weeks ago, which lets users log in to their Twitch accounts from your app. However, we haven't yet integrated chat into the API to be able to present a TwitchTV chat widget to your users. This is a high priority though, and will be one of the next things we add to the API.

Thanks for the quick response on this.  This may be a dumb question, but how closely related are the TwitchTV and Justin.tv services?  Are they sharing the same authentication back end?  From a development perspective is there a good explanation of the overlap and gap in functionality between the two services?  It is a little confusing to someone getting started with the API.

TwitchTV and Justin.tv share the same users, so our APIs will generally work on user accounts regardless of where they registered. TwitchTV is the gaming-focused subset of Justin.tv, so Twitch APIs will have additional functionality that only applies to Twitch users, e.g. game (What game is this channel playing?), teams, etc.

We want to move over most of the functionality on the Justin.tv REST API to the Twitch OAuth 2 API over time, adding the extra features that make sense for gamers, but for the moment you will likely have to use both APIs for any non-trivial app.

Does that help?

That does help, thank you.  In my particular use case I don't see much overlap with the gamer community but the ability to enable the login account from my web app is appealing so that I can effectively have a single sign on is appealing.
