http://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_3.0_FAQ#How_do_I_get_a_Joomla_3.0_template.3F ?
But many 2.5 Templates will work in 3.0 without any modification will they not ?  So is the wiki a little confusing as it leads people to believe that 2.5 Templates don't work in 3.0 !

I think that 2.5 templates will need to be re-worked for 3.0 because
of using Bootstrap. But I don't know any details. Mark

Hi mark, why do 2.5 Templates need to be 'reworked' ?  From what I can see the 2.5 Templates use their own css files and therefore render as they do in 2.5.  Yes they can be reworked to use the bootstrap files css, js etc.  ... the presence of the bootstrap files do not adversely effect the normal operation of the Template(css) do they ?  Or do the 2.5 Templates rely on some Joomla css that is no longer present in 3.0 ?

I'm not 100% clear either, but as I understand it now, the markup for the
core layouts has changed, and thus the CSS styling needs to be updated.
Also, Joomla provided some system CSS to templates to use if they wanted
to and now that's replaced with Boostrap's styling instead.

Did I get that right?

Kind regards,
Nick

p.s. Perhaps it's just if your template is using the system CSS or is
using layout overrides?

H Nick

From a thread in bugsquad it appears that some 2.5 Templates will work with J3 ... so perhaps the wiki is misleading ?

"Some template companies will be offering Joomla 3 templates either right away or shortly after release, but you will need to ask each one. Some have already announced that their templates will be ready for Joomla 3 when it is released, but others have not."
Makes it appear that no 2.5 Templates will work on J3 and that Templates have to be specifically designed for J3.

Perhaps some wording in there to reflect that some 2.5 Templates will work ?

OK, updated:
http://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_3.0_FAQ

Is that better?

We can continue improving it as we get new information.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi nick

Thanks that is more accurate methinks.  Wasn't knocking the wiki info, just adding feed back and asking about the wording.  I don't like editing the wiki unless i'm know exactly.

Thanks Kevin! I always appreciate your feedback so keep it coming if you
have any more.
