to be more specific, JDocumentHTML and JViewHtml? It seems the former has more features while the View in new MVC is quite simple.

There isn't really any. The view is part of the MVC while JDocument is part of our templating system. When the CMS switches to the new MVC JView(HTML) will be used to render the component (and maybe module) output while JDocument will be responsible for stitching all the output together to render the page.
