Is there a bug in the discover code for the extension manager or am I doing something wrong (money on the latter of course)

I downloaded a module zip file from chapter 6 of this book site
it installs correctly if I install as a zip, but if I Extract All to the correctly named folder within the site/modules folder and run the discover routine from the backend
 - It discovers the module
 - It appears to install it correctly (when asked to)
but after that it does not appear in the module manager

as I said, works fine when I just install the zip using extension manager

Is this a known bug/issue ?

So in the module manager when you click "New", you are saying it
doesn't appear in that list? Or are you saying it doesn't create a
default instance of the module?

The latter Sam
I can discover it, and install it, but then it doesn't show up at all in module manager

Only a small issue, I can work around this, but it may be a bug
Working in a new 2.5.4 upgraded to 2.5.6 version in a Tutorial site created for testing code that came with the book

Thx, Nick

The primary purpose of discover install was to ensure that an
extension was registered properly and any custom SQL it needed was run
(mostly for components). The user I had in mind were more developers
working on code less so than generic end users so to that end creating
an empty module wasn't high on the priority list. Certainly a feature
you could request however.

Hi Nicholas. I just tried it here. When you Discover -> Install, it
successfully installs the module but it does not automatically create
an instance of the module. If you go to Module Manager->New, you can
create an instance of the Articles by Current Author module.

So, yes, the behavior is a bit different when you Discover->Install a
module, but it still works fine. So I don't think it's a bug.

Thanks Sam, I was out of office for last reply so kept it short

I see, Yes, if I add a new module in module manager it's there and I can easily include it that way

Thanks for the explanation/clarification

When using discover to install a module, would it be possible to display a message to clarifying this?

Or better yet make it work just like a normal install and create an
unpublished module? Mark

Agreed. That is likely the expected behavior.
