A big congratulations! Joomla 3 Beta1 has been released :)  Please read the official Beta1 announcement at:

p.s. Additionally, there will be a *pre-release* of Joomla 2.5.7 (for testing) released within the next three days (possibly today).  There will be a separate announcement for it once it's ready, but I just wanted to give you a heads up to be looking for it.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE INSTALLATION FOLDER

statement is false since you can still access front and admin without deleting the installation folder

This is always the case in prereleases to make testing easier.

OK about removing folder but was bit surprised that alpha sample data had more samples that's all.

Congrats on the release.

Quick bug report for whoever is in charge of the install scripts.  I looked at filing a bug but it seemed a bit overkill for someone that can simply do a quick check in.

The 3.0.0.sql update file for mysql has a small typo in it, causing the 'database' function of the com_installer to fail.

line 18 should say:

ALTER TABLE `#__users` DROP COLUMN `usertype`;

But the table name is missing the "s" for users.

Now you have the choice of many different versions of sample data. The default is one page only as mentioned.

For testing  I recommend either learn joomla (which is the old default) or 
Test whcih is for testers and includes useful information such as the fact that the remove folder is disabled for testing releases.
