Hi folks,
as far as I understand it, the updateserver for Joomla is broken:
http://update.joomla.org/core/extension.xml

As version tag, it only returns 2.5.2, not 2.5.3 and thus no one will be
able to upgrade unless you have 2.5.1 and below.

I see where you are coming from BUT the update screen in my Joomla installs is correctly showing 2.5.3
And obviously it is working successfully as people have upgraded

In that case, we have two bugs here, one in the XML and one in the
updater, which does not correctly read the XML file.

If you look at the database I think you will find the updater in this
cases uses the list XML file as the primary so that only a small file
is parsed as opposed to the more detailed file. This was an
optimisation I introduced so that you can have a large list of
extensions which is quickly parsed for the basic details and when more
details are required the full extension.xml file is examined. Also
means that you can have a centralised list with off site extension
detail files.

It's picked up the latest applicable version entry when trying to do
the install of the update which is why it still works properly. It
could be considered that it should be less tolerant and throw an error
when it can't find an exact match for the latest version listed in
list.xml file and the updates table.

Though as Brian point's out is indeed working as intended - is it a
feature or a bug? :p

However bug or feature, I've fixed the XML file.

Cheers,
