Summary:
Since our founding a century ago, UNITE HERE has been a union of and for immigrants and immigrant rights. In the last two decades, UNITE HERE has organized major initiatives to empower immigrants at work and in their communities, including the Immigrant Worker Freedom Rides, Adios Arpaio and beyond.
Today, UNITE HERE is launching new efforts help immigrant workers achieve greater protections under the law, better jobs, and a pathway to citizenship. As an Immigration Communications Specialist with UNITE HERE, you will play a key role in designing and executing comprehensive communications strategies for both programs, using digital platforms, earned media and multi-media tools.
· Framing messages and developing materials for effective communication with the news media, the general public, union members and other working people, and coalition partners.
· Developing, planning and executing communication strategies for UNITE HERE’s immigration campaigns.
· Generating earned media, planning and organizing media events, and training workers to be spokespersons.
· Coordinating interviews and earned media opportunities for UNITE HERE’s General Vice President of Immigration, Civil Rights and Diversity, Maria Elena Durazo.
· Writing leaflets, bulletins, website and e-advocacy content, social media content, news releases, fact sheets, talking points, speeches and other materials.
· Maintaining and updating content related to UNITE HERE’s immigration campaigns on union websites, social media feeds, and internal electronic archives.
· Managing the production of internal member communications on immigration, including electronic communications using mass texting and email services, and more.
· Producing multi-media tools, such as short videos.
· Coordinating with UNITE HERE local leaders and staff to support and amplify local campaign activities.
· Working with outside consultants or vendors on special projects.
· Ensure that all communication is consistent and reflects the Union’s strategic vision.
· Analyze and report on the success of our outreach efforts online, in earned media and beyond.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
· Proficient with Microsoft Word/Excel
· Demonstrated commitment to social justice
· Prior work experience with grassroots advocacy campaigns
· Experience with creative media production in one or more of the following areas is preferred” web development, graphic design, photography or video production / editing.
· Experience using with Salsa or Mobile Commons a plus
· Experience using Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) or Final Cut Pro a plus.
