Great to see there are so many people alive and kicking on this list!

Just thought I would put a technical question to the group ... we need to do some load testing for our application, and
wondered if anyone had any strong opinions on which ones to use. We've been looking at JMeter and Grinder. Grinder looks
a better choice for our project as it seems easier to set up your own scripts, which will be very important.

Any other frameworks which are seriously worth a look?

Hi Phil

Apache JAMES is the only one that I have seen. I have certainly seen it used in performance tuning servers

Apache AB, simple and already there if you have the Apache Web Server. The other thing you could look at is Paessler Web Stress tool (commercial)

JMeter is worth looking at - it gives a lot of flexibility in constructing load test scenarios.

One option is to configure it up to record your access of the system via browser/proxy and then replay them.
I found that the recorded steps gave me a good basis on which to further build the load test (e.g ramp-up, timers, etc.).

It is important to fully understand how your load test is working - as it is quite easy to write a load test that does not really simulate your desired load/scenario.

Tsung is another one if you don't mind going into the dark side of Erlang.  Relatively easy to set it up to run on the EC2 to get crazy amount of load tested.
