A comment appeared on the post about "senior developers":
have really good programmers gotten so vain that good money isn't enough but the project must also be interesting?

That's an interesting comment. As an employer (AND as a developer), I sure hope that my team finds projects interesting and aren't in it "just for the money".

Hopefully they find the work interesting. Just going to the highest bidder does not make a happy employee. There has to be a lot more to a good job than just money, but you still need a livable wage, hopefully one that is better than most where you live so you are comfortable.

I'm more interested in having passionate programmers as colleagues
than the project.
And if the customer is not a government employee/agency/bureaucrat
then I'm in Heaven.

Please elaborate on issues/problems with government
employee/agency/bureaucrat... I was once a Sun Microsystems' employee
until 2002 and now work for US Navy in a research and engineering
support organization (as a technical lead). I understand the layers of
bureaucrat in DoD can be very frustrated. But as for government
employees, are you all having issue with the individual you dealt with
in the past (or may be current) or all gov employees? Think of this as
my way of reaching back to private industry to better improve my
communication and relationship between myself and my private industry
colleagues.

Very respectfully,
Jay

You are probably seeing a blanket statement. I have good friends in government and out. Some of them have a much better life than those working for banks and insurance companies. You just have to be willing to do things the government's way because they will not change their rules while companies will if it will benefit them.
