Date: 26 DEC 2014 ... Altitude: about 700 m asl

Dear friends,
Small erect herb about 2 ft high growing under cover of large trees (habitat: moist evergreen forest) near water fall.
Flower head about 10 - 15 mm across.

Please validate the ID.

Its more likely to be a species of Vernonia

That was my initial guess, but could not get to any known species of Vernonia.
