Suzannah from the Barquin office is now freed up to start proofreading
(aka proof-reading) the book for typos and formatting issues starting
today.

(Any additions from here on out will be added as appendices.)

We will then:

1. Create a PDF to be posted on the "Books" section of Hobocentral.net
2. Publish a version for those who want a hard copy on LuLu.com
3. Provide the DOCX source for an "open source" version that can
migrated to Lyx/LaTex) and updated and enhanced by the community.

Cheers,

Owen

Congratulations on this milestone.

Three (3) questions.

1) Where can I get the latest/greatest current version?

2) Where/Who do I send typos I've found?

3) Could you also create an "open source" version using the
Open Document Format (ODF) .odt file format, which is considered more
open source than the MS .docx format, and can also produce documents
about half the size of .docx.

Also, as a suggestion, check compatibility of formats using
LibreOffice
(www.libreoffice.org/) now at just released version 3.4 (Linux, MS,
Mac OSx). LibreOffice is now the de facto open source replacement of
OpenOffice for most Linux distributions.

Thanks

1 and 2, there's a lighthouse ticket for these but I don't know what it is off the top of my head.  It's linked a bunch of different places in the group though.

on point 3), Owen mentioned transitioning to lyx (also open source, open standard) which gives nice clean formatting (latex on the backend) and handles large documents extremely well.

1) The latest version I have is rapid-rails-3-with-hobo-beta-6.
Is there a later version that is being used?

2) I have multiple times submitted errata reports for typos in these
forums for the book in its development, but those errors still exist
in the latest version I have. A link to the specific site/person who
will actually look at these errors, and correct them, is the specific
information I am asking for.

3) I am requesting that -- in addition to -- the formats that were
listed that the book would be provided in, I also would like to see it
provided in the ODF open source .odt file format, which is native to
Linux/Unix systems.

1. BET-6 that is being edited is up on Lighthouse:

2. Please post errata/comments in LightHouse

3. Sure. Will do.

Thanks,

I post every time I upload a new version, include the LH link,  and welcome edits.

Not sure how better to communicate...

Search the group with the terms "Rapid Rails 3 with Hobo" :-)

Thanks,

See:

https://barquin.lighthouseapp.com/projects/63775-rapid-rails-3-with-hobo/tickets/94-beta-6-is-avalable-for-review

Suzannah is going to accumulate any new tickets as she edits. I
uploaded the 2011-05-18 version in Word and PDF. The ODT conversion
failed on Word 2007. Suzannah has Office 2010 and hopefulling that
will work.

As Kevin mentioned, once we get this out we will work on getting it in
Lyx to reduce the editing and formatting headaches with such a large
document. It will also allow easier contributions from members of the
community.

Cheers,

Owen

Hello,

why don't you use only the newest Office-Versions.
Think, that most people don't have - and use - them...

I shouldn't have mentioned what we use to write as it confuses the
standard output we will use, PDF, until we get a version in LyX that
can easily generate whatever output you would like to use.
