Honda has a new two-wheeled mobility device called the Uni Cub: http://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/05/honda-uni-cub/

It should solve the problem of falling into fountains while texting...

I'll be attending the Robots & Humans event in SF on Monday.  If anyone else is going let me know, I'd like to meet you.  I'll report.

Can't wait to attend my first Makers Faire this weekend!

The Robots & Humans event was worth going to.  It included two presentations: the first demonstrating some very compelling work, one project in particular with an arm 'reacting' to a bottle of water being thrown toward it while 'predicting' it's trajectory and the arm was able to catch the bottle successfully, with 100% accuracy once the system had been optimized.  That particular system was using infrared sensors in a limited area to 'see' the bottle, and the demonstration proved the concept very well.  The second presentation was by the head of the AI Lab at Stanford, and demonstrated some history of robotics and pointed out that robotics has made particularly impressive progress in just the last 10-15 years.  There was also a robotic bartender: no kidding, a guy with a mohawk created a machine that will create a martini for you automatically.  I'll post a link to the event video if and when it's posted.

Thanks for the recap, Rick--I was definitely curious about it and wished I could have attended.

Please do post a link if they happen to release video.

Thanks!

Arthur
