I couldn't make this meetup, but I did want to get in touch. I work for Capital Newspapers and I've been selling management on the idea of building / hosting civic apps for Madison under the Madison.com umbrella. I got word today that they're definitely interested in those possibilities in 2013. There would likely be some branding involved (eg, "Adopt-a-Hydrant, brought to you by Madison.com") but I think there's a real possibility of getting some traction.
If anyone is interested in discussing this, I'd like to hear your thoughts / suggestions. I'm personally a bit leery of corporate involvement with civic projects, but I also think we have the resources and the general audience here to champion such efforts. I can be available in person if that works better for anyone. Feel free to get in touch with me at mike.schuette [shift-2]
gmail.com.
I'm also out of the loop with the open data project, so any input there would be appreciated. (Status / timeline / data sets and formats.) I emailed Scott Resnick this morning to get in touch.
Curious about the discussion I missed and any developments in the community...
