we were discussing small (0.3) mm printer nozzles tonight and I mentioned I might be able to source some stainless needles to use as an insert. Heather uses ones down to 27AWG (0.21mm apparently), however while trying to explain the size we needed in non-technical terms I said "the size of a fine paper-mate pencil".

Now could we actually use the tip of a mechanical pencil? Being metal It should handle the heat, and already has an internal thread, available in various sizes (0.3 to 0.7). could probably do with a bit of shortening and possibly pressing a teflon dome over the end to give it a nice smooth shape?

What do you think? seems too obvious, surely someone has tried it already?

A mechani

cal pencil tip is mentioned on the list of extruder experiments. Not
much detail beyond apparent heating problems:

All of the new mechanical pencils that Ive seen have a minimum amont of metal, and that usually slides inside the plastic tip of the pencil.
I will need to look through my stash of older pencils, but I dont have too many as I usually lose them almost immediately after filling them up for the first time.

Cheers Pau
