Have just run the 1.2 uninstaller, emptied trash, paid for, downloaded
and installed Growl 1.3.1 Thank you.

But no applications show up!

I have the latest versions of these apps on 10.7.2 with Growl 1.3.1

1Password
DropBox
MailSteward
Interarchy
BBEdit
SuperDuper

In each case - according to Growl Version Detective - the FrameWork is
1.2.1 (Interarchy is 1.2).

I assume you drag a Growl-aware Application's icon to the Applications
window in Growl.

These apps won't let me do that. Nothing shows up in my Growl
Applications.

What am I doing wrong, please?

Thanks :-)

Try this: Open GVD, click Framework, choose 1Password, click the upgrade framework button. Quit Growl, repen growl and check applications to see if 1Password is there. If it worked, you can try the same for each app you listed. Hope it works.

Thanks, Alice; but a) the Framework is the latest and b) I'm nervous
about updating a framework to create instability.

The gvd has a button to revert the framework. We also warn of that very thing before updating it, and we don't allow the fw to be updated in situations where we know there would be issues (growl-withinstaller.framework or purchased via the app store, etc).

What version does it show? I know you said "the latest" but what version is that?

Thanks, Chris; have replied off list with a grab of versions and
tickets that have now got registered - but, it seems, only after a
restart?!

Your help much appreciated :-)

Ditto to all the above...

I have a new macbook air, on which there were no previous versions of
Growl. When 1.3 was released, I bought and installed it. Initially, it
recognized nothing.

I downloaded Simplest Evar; it recognized that. Since then, it only
picked up one or two new applications.

I ran GVD and updated the framework on everything it showed (which I
was uncomfortable doing but did anyway). The only thing this worked
for was Adium; the others still don't (Dropbox, etc.) and a few
applications (Firefox) don't even show up on the GVD list.

Also, I have read that Spotify integrates with Growl (though it's not
listed on the website), which didn't show up either.

I will say, I do have Quicksilver, and I have read that it may do
funny things with Growl. Is that the source of these problems?

It seems like quite a few of us are having issues, some help would be
appreciated.

Cheers!

Ditto to all of the above.

I just updated my Growl to the newest version 1.3.1 and the only programs that show up are Dropbox and Alfred.  I thought this last update was supposed to fix all of the bugs in the last major installment of Growl!  What can I do?

Since the Apps that are supposed to work with 1.3 have - in fact -
slowly started to show up over the past couple of days, I assumed that
was because of restarts.

But maybe one of the helpful folk who really know would confirm or
deny my latest hypothesis: that they don't show up in the Applications
window until they're actually been *used*; until they've actually been
called upon to leave their mark?

Is that how it's meant to work?

Thanks so much!

Typically applications which work with Growl look for Growl running (or installed) on startup of the application. So restarting the application will typically help to get them to register.

Some applications do not register until they need Growl. That is the case with Dropbox.

You can run Growl Version Detective and find an application which is not currently working. Let's say that's Skype (just an example to make describing the rest of this easier). In the Framework tab, once the list is generated, go ahead and select Skype. You would then see the framework version, and if you can update the framework. If available, please update the framework, and then restart Skype (or whatever app you are using).

That seems to be what's happening, Chris; although - strange to say -
not with DropBox itself. I have version 1.2.48

And that has run, started, rerun and generally retorted many dozens of
times since I installed Growl 1.3.1

Thanks fork any ideas here, please!

iTunes doesn't natively support growl, so you need an intermediary to do the talking between.
there are a couple, the simplest probably being GrowlTunes, which you can currently find in the extras folder on the Growl 1.2.2 dmg (download here: http://growl.info/downloads)
