I was a happy user of Growl on version 1.2 and decided to purchase
version 1.3

I decided to uninstall 1.2 using AppCleaner but then I found that no
alerts were coming.

I found out that still I have two versions running: 1.2 on pref pane
and 1.3 on top menu

How can I fix this?? Thanks!

have you tried running the growl 1.2 uninstaller?
get it here:

I did try but nothing seems to happen. 1.2 is still visible on the
pref pane
I have stopped it from running though, uninstalled and reinstalled 1.3
but still the list of apps on 1.3 remains empty and hence, not working

Thanks for the hint anyhow, any other suggestion?

If you're happy rooting around your computer, then just go searching for Growl.prefPane and delete it anywhere you find it. Be aware that spotlight isn't very good at finding things though.
If you're comfortable with the terminal:
find / -iname growl.prefpane 2>/dev/null
will help.

Also, you may find some apps that used to work with growl 1.2 no longer work with growl 1.3, as they have outdated frameworks. again, there is some amount of hacking around you can do to fix some of them…
What apps do you have that, at least previously, support Growl?

…oh, or:
try going into System Preferences, then right-click on Growl, and click 'Remove “Growl” Preference Pane'
?

Thanks, I manage to get rid of version 1.2 and apparently, only 1.3 is
running.

On the apps running with Growl I can only see MenuWeather but not
Sparrow and the twitter app (YoruFukurou) :(

ah, ok.
so sparrow is a known problem. have a search for it on this discussion forum.

as for yorufukorou, i just poked the app bundle. it has the latest framework, so should be ok from that standpoint at least. try:
1. make sure you have the latest version.
2. restart it, see if it shows up then.

if it still doesn't work, you should contact the developer and let them know.
(as you have something working with growl, growl is ok, so it is a problem with the app.)

Hi there.
I bought Growl from MAS and i've a problem. It doesn't show any notification when using Sparrow, Firefox, Dropbox etc... It simply doesn't work.
I uninstalled the previous version with the uninstaller tool and in Pref Pannel there isn't the previous version.

  • Growl version: 1.3
  • Os version: 1.7.1
  • Safari version: 5.1
  • Specific names of any applications you're trying to use with Growl: Sparrow, Firefox, Dropbox etc..
  • Display style you're using (for notification-display issues): Raaarr

Thanks for the help!

Hi Giovanni,

In the future can you start a new thread? I almost missed this message. :)

So Sparrow has an issue talking to Growl 1.3, and we're working with the Sparrow developers to make that work right.

Dropbox you will need the forum build I believe. Please contact them to find out which version supports Growl 1.3.

On Firefox, I did test Firefox with 1.3 before it was released, but I'll try again.

Chris
