growl 1.3 + Lion is not happy?

So I immediately bought Growl when it came out on the MAS to support -
growl has been a daily user for me forever and I was happy to donate.

Unfortunately it stopped working suddenly recently. I uninstalled (by
using the launchpad/iOS-style) and reinstalled. Same. So I
uninstalled and cleared out my library since I still had styles/plists
etc. leftover from 1.2.x.

Now when I reinstall, my applications directory is completely empty
except for "simplest notifier evar" which works fine. I've
reinstalled again to make sure that didn't do it.

I'm a little confused. How can I get growl to repopulate the
applications that use growl and get working?

Thanks!

which applications are you expecting to support growl?
some aren't working with Growl 1.3 just yet.

I saw someone mention that Sparrow wasn't working yet.  But you know the entire list of things that are populated when you install growl normally - browsers, ftp clients, and even the GrowlTunes that is supposed to be built in now isn't there..

btw, I uninstalled Trillian (from the MAS) and reinstalled and it has appeared in the growl application list and is working normally.  So that's good.

Did the same for Sparrow and it's in there as well, but doesn't work.  So now I have 3 apps.  But no others and that includes growltunes.  Am I going to literally have to reinstall all software I expect to work with growl to get this working?  That seems... odd.

Sparrow is broken but they are working on a fix for it. We've been in contact with them.

One of the Trillian folks actually helped with Growl 1.3 framework. :)

GrowlTunes was never built into Growl. It'll be a separate entry in the app store once done. So if you do have GrowlTunes already, make sure it's the latest version that came with 1.2.2. If not, download the Growl 1.2.2 disk image, and then go to the Extras folder and grab GrowlTunes.

What other apps do you have not working?

Hi Chris,

Well, frankly.. all of them.  heh.  My applications list is seriously empty - http://cl.ly/AigE   The only reason those couple are there is because I manually uninstalled and then reinstalled them.

So stuff like firefox, outlook, vlc, skype, bbedit, twitter.  I really don't know all of them by heart - I just know is they're not listed in my applications list anymore and I'm not sure how to get them back in (barring reinstalling all of them.)

10/4 on growltunes - Oh, I know growltunes hasn't been built in historically.  I just swear I read that it was in 1.3.  I have no idea where I read that now, but I could have sworn it was somewhere official.  Obviously I am mistaken (or they were wrong) if you're saying that, though.  heh.

Alright, here it goes:

Outlook - You'll need a script for this. Outlook doesn't support notifications. However, you can try Matt Gemmell's excellent instructions (I use this for my school account) http://mattgemmell.com/2010/11/03/using-growl-with-microsoft-outlook-2011-mac/

Firefox - The Mozilla team is aware of the issue and already working on a  fix.

Skype - Skype will need to release an update to get Skype to work with Growl 1.3.

BBEdit - Try contacting BareBones. However, I am able to get TextWrangler working, so I would be surprised if it's not working. It may be as simple as http://www.ninjadesk.com/featured/fixing-outdated-apps-manually-to-work-with-the-new-growl-1-3-for-os-x-lion/

VLC - Contact VLC about the issue.
